I am in the process of removing the SS 454 fender emblems on a 70 chevelle. I got the driver side off and everything on the passenger side off, but one "S", luckily the 454 emblem was glued on. There seems to be a lot less room on the passenger side to get inside the fender to take emblems off.

I have tried the craftsman ratcheting wrenchs, but my 5/16 wrench is too short. I see they sell a longer version, but it is in set. I don't mind buying the set, but only if it will work. What have you used to get these emblems off on the passenger side?

Thanks,

Bart

A friend of mine who owns a body shop gave me a tip his father taught him in the 70's. When they were fixing a dent in a Chevelle fender (as well as other cars) but didn't need to remove it, he would do this: He had a 3in wide putty knife that he sharpened on the grinding wheel. He would slip it down the fender behind the emblem and wack it with a hammer to cut the studs. They would repair/paint the fender, then put new emblems back with the spring clips that fit into the whole. They don't require a nut/wrench from the back. You can also glue the old emblems back, if you want to reuse them.
Most of the emblems on the new cars are glued on these days.

Thanks Bill, the tip you passed on worked great on getting the last emblem off.
