I have a 72 Malibu with sweep style dash. The fuel gauge will never go much above 1/4, even when tank is full. As fuel is used it seems to become functional again at 1/4 and below. Took sender out of tank and checked ohms...got 2-88. Cleaned ground to body connection. Any ideas ?

At the Sender, check for a good ground connection and that your getting 12v from the gauge. My guess is you've got a bad connection either at the dash or somewhere down the line to the sender. I "think" the harness has several connections splices on the way to the sender.
