Alright So I have a 72 Chevelle in the making, with an 402 engine but no trans. I am debating where to start the work. So should I
Start Under the hood and get it running?
Start with the interior?
Start with the body, no paint job?
Start with the body with paint job?

I believe for myself I would get it running and driving first. Make it safe and reliable and then drive it! I would then do the body work and paint. I believe the biggest mistake people make is tearing a car into a thousand pieces and then start rebuilding each and every part, this takes an enormous amount of dedication and cash to get the car back together, more often than not people lose interest because it takes so long and so much effort and money. I think it's really important to keep the project fun,if your having a good time driving the car you will be encouraged to keep working and to get the car back on the road. I also suggest having the body and paint work done early, this is the one area where most people get the greatest satisfaction, when you start getting the looks from other people and the thumbs up you will be glad your car is on the road. You can be out having fun while many of us are in the shop rebuilding yet another part.

I would agree to get it running first. Actually being able to drive your car is why you even got it in the first place, right? Then, while you are able to drive it, you can begin to figure out just exactly what you want to get out of it... a nice looking driver, a show-type, or whatever. What do YOU want to do. No one else's opinion really counts...it's your car. Lots of help available here and opinions too...just ask! Whatever you do, have fun with it and keep us in the loop.
I agree, I would get it running first just keep you foot out of it until you make sure the brakes and suspension are up to snuff.

Whats it look like ?
I mean is this car so ugly its embarassing to be seen in ?
If so maybe do the body work.
But if it looks acceptable to you.
Yeah get it running, but make sure your brakes and suspension are up to snuff, before you risk your life and anybodyelses.
Guessing this is not your primary car, if its not a priority to have it running take some time, and clean everything you can reach. Its a good way to learn about your car and its condition.
Underhood, under car, in the interior, just clean stuff up.
Look at your floor boards, the frame, look for rust or other damage that might compromise the cars reliability. Get to know it.
