I'm about to complete the purchase of a 69 SS Chevelle, the car was manufactured in Canada, it was a 396/ 4 speed car and now it's a 454 / 4 speed car. I'm located in California, will the DMV be asking me to install a smog pump ? or anything else related to smog ? thks

no, you will not be required to do any smog inspections or tests on you 69.

Is this because it was made in Canada or because from 1972 and older smog is not necessary any more. Now that I have said that does that rule apply to cars ? I have a 72 1 ton dually and I'm told that 72 and older no longer needs to have smog system at least here in california. When I see these Correct cars being sold on TV Auctions and they have smog pumps is that because there keeping it 100% factory for resale or because they have to ?

You should really check with your local DMV office as fun as that is. Especially in California, they seem to be the most smog regulating that there could be. I had to deal with it over 20 years ago and can't even imagine the rules today. the older vehicle should allow you to be exempt but you know the politics of old cars...they'd rather you crushed it and bought a new hybrid. Hope they don't kill you on registration charges, titling fees and etc. Good luck
