: can keep the temp down
65'pro-street Apr 7th, 06, 11:20 AM I need some suggestions: I can keep the temp down on my 65' I have two fans in front of the radiator, and the radiator is new??? I am thinking of junking the radiator for a Jeg's or one from Summit. I am open for suggestions......t
GetMore Apr 7th, 06, 3:47 PM Fans are not as efficient when mounted as pushers as they are when mounted as pullers. If you can move them behind the radiator that would be better.
If you have the temp problem idling, street driving and on the highway then it is not the fans.
Is the thermostat good?
shaddow Apr 7th, 06, 5:04 PM Yea, pull the T-stat and look for any defaults. If none, you can check it by putting it in hot water. What temp is the stat? 195 degrees? If you do take it out and it's warm enough where you are, just run it w/o it and see how you do. What kind of radiator, single or two row? And I'm assuming the fluid looks good. Also, where is your temp sender plugged in, the head or manifold? I keep mine in the head although I hear it will read hotter than really is, my reason for that is I'd rather know the hottest temp of the engine I can get. I like to know that even in the head it's not getting too hot, and it never really goes past 195, until I turn it off on a hot day.
Jerry70 Apr 7th, 06, 10:45 PM It could be that the radiator is inadequate for your particular engine but there are are a bunch of other things that could could also be the problem. Timing, jetting, thin cylinder walls, tight clearances, lack of a shroud, are a few that come to mind. You didn't give any info about your engine or about the conditions under which it overheats. Without that information we can't do more than make some guesses and let you spend a fortune fixing every possible cause until you luck out and fix the right one.
65'pro-street Apr 10th, 06, 2:57 PM Guys" I'm going to move the fan behind the radiator. As for: What do I have in my 65'.? Basically, NASCAR guys, it's a BUSCH Motor. Crane cam, roller rockers, etc, It was built by Harry Hyde, here in Daytona Beach. He followed the same specs as what NASCAR requires for the BUSCH motors. It is very stout in the bottom end (crank, rods, etc.) His comment on the situation was to junk the 65' radiator and get a good one from who ever....Griffin... It was cooling 195-210 until about amonth ago, when it started pucking al the way back to the house. The temp. shot up very fast and I barely made it home . I have been very busy with the children, since. I teach school, jr and srs, and it is graduation time. So there is alot going on, the hot rod has to take a backseat until May. I will try the fan and the new radiator. I will keep ya'll posted.....t

You may want to think about the 66 version as it will bolt to the core support the same and inlets are a better flow pattern NOT stacked one over the other ...it was a poor design as the driverside of the rad is some what stagnet .
