: Cheapest Retailer of Int. Parts.
shaddow Apr 6th, 06, 4:51 PM I'm investing into a new interior (seats will just get refoamed and reuphosltered) but beyond that, everything is going to be new: carpet, headliner, sidepanels, dash, handles, receiver and speakers (Which I'll do myself), and all the other trimmings. I took a look at NPD and 8 items in I was already over a $1000. This doesn't include the cash I'll have to dish out for the work on the two benchseats and the headliner install. So I'm wondering if there's a real cheap place that sells interior parts for my car (71 Chevelle), keeping in mind I have looked at SS396.com but didn't see everything I need. Also, when I bought this car, the area behind the rear seat where the 6x9's go was covered with a blue, thick carpet material that the previous owner installed for some reason. Didn't even match the already ugly green vinyl interior. So I was wondering how I would go about getting that back to stock form???
I know there's a lot to interiors and that the little $5-$25 items add up, especially when you need a pair of em, such as door handles, but I wanna keep the cost as low as possible, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Anthony
If you're doing that much work: Are you sure that you want the cheapest parts possible?
dgwar Apr 6th, 06, 8:43 PM I thought that too.
Cheap looks cheap.
hpsherlin Apr 6th, 06, 10:04 PM I just bought the entire interior including bezels, dash gauges, etc. etc. for mine. You will find that you can get catalogs from year one, NPD, and ground up restoration and others. It will NOT be cheap. You could always use some of the original items you have already that are easily replaced and replace them one at a time. Be prepared for sticker shock. Whatever you expect to spend on restoration -----DOUBLE IT!!!!
As you replace items, you will decide to replace other not perfect items. You can always rechrome but that costs even more. NPD does treat you well with great service.

Thank you for that comment. In retort to the other comments, I never said I wanted the parts themselves to be of cheap quality, I'm actually trying save some money if you can believe that, and yes, I am aware that it will be a lot of money. This is the problem, you misunderstood me, I WANT TO SAVE MONEY AND WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RETAILER OUT THERE THAT YOU GUYS MAY KNOW OF OR BUY FROM THAT SELLS THESE PARTICULAR ITEMS FOR LESS. KIND OF LIKE BUYING COKE FROM A 7-11 OR A WAL MART, THE COKE IS THE SAME BUT YOU'LL PAY LESS AT WAL MART, SAVVY??????? I have purchased exterior parts from NPD before and yes, their service is quite good, just looking to see if there was someone who sold for cheaper is all.
philbay Apr 7th, 06, 5:26 AM Hi. Im doing something like this and I found that opgi is allittle cheaper all arround than ndp. Im assuming all the parts are from the same manufacturer, example rear plastic 1/4 panels... opgi...99.95,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,year1,,,,,,,119.00, sill plate... 82.00.............. 60.95 opgi........ Now. important thing is import vs. american made,be careful apples to apples thing....good luck..we both need it.......... now.to make you feel better. IN 1970,,,, may 8. I bought a brand new LS6 full loaded for 3891.00.. How do you think I feel paying these prices// GREED? I think so.. the American way. And I am a Vietnam Vet, so dont say a thing.. good luck.. .

You might want to search the forum for opinions on the vendor you're planning to use before you place an order.
hpsherlin Apr 7th, 06, 9:40 AM I think you misunderstood me. I was only informing you to get catalogs from different vendors and compare prices. Also, you can get a complete basic interior kit and install it ie: headliner, carpet, visors, seat covers, and door panels first. I also know you can then get items easy to change later on as you go such as door handles, window cranks, mirrors, trim, etc. and use the originals for now. Never thought you meant cheap in quality. The warning about prices was meant as face value. It is a shocker to me also. At least items are available when/if you need them. Hope this clarifies.

sometimes (ok MOST times) "Ya get what ya pay for"!
Chief Apr 7th, 06, 12:10 PM Try http://ls6454.com/. Talk to John or his wife. They price matched everything I wanted, shipped the order for free and even ordered the interior panels, seat vinyl and boot for the convertible from P.U.I., in the same lot so all the colors would be a perfect match...
They may remember me, tell them Mike Day from Clinton Township, Michigan sent you...
Blown 70 Apr 7th, 06, 3:57 PM Nothin wrong with trying to save money
Most of the time all these retailers are selling the exact same goods, same manufacturer, same packaging, etc...
So shopping around for the best price for those of us on a budget is the way to do it !!!
Just be sure that you are comparing apples to apples.
Expensive does not equal Quality !
shaddow Apr 7th, 06, 4:47 PM TY for replies, a few manufactuers/distributors/retailers that I was unaware of; exactly what I was looking for, thank you guys very much for your help. Plans are to put in the new TH-350 this weekend, then order the Edelbrock carb, then save some money over about a month's time and then start to order the interior parts and the car should be DONE as far as driveability, of course I'll never be "done" done. Always something to work on. In the next month I'll be installing a radio/CD player into the car, I have the power wire from the Painless fuseblock and I've been told with that and a ground that that should be enough to power the receiver. Then I'm going to run some decent speakers and route all the wiring before laying the carpet. What do you guys think of the sound deadener below the carpet? Need it? And BTW, I'm not going for big sound, just want some music in the car, been almost five years without a radio in there (Used to have the old 8-Track which I removed). So I've just been listening to the sound of the 350. Not a bad substitute really. So would the 12v power wire and a ground be ample enough to power say a 54x4 watt receiver???
Blueshwk Apr 16th, 06, 10:06 PM Try Gillette Classics. They sell through an ebay store. Great guy to deal with and good prices to boot. Front and rear covers for my 66 seats were 209.00
INJUNTOM Apr 17th, 06, 4:20 AM most of these places will price match
you will also find that some of them may be higher on one item, but lower on another.
on large amounts of items, it pays to get the best price on each item, and ask for a price match from the one with the overall lower prices, or the best rep, or whatever you choose to base that decision on.
Chris R Apr 18th, 06, 2:48 AM I ordered from OPG and never had a problem. There are many, many, complaints on this place but in my opinion, I would gladly give them another large some of money for parts I need. The problem lays with the backorder issues. Which I had a few parts end up on backorder but im NEVER in any sort of hurry to get my car to any sort of stage of restoration by any given time. So I waited patiently for some parts. Which came without taking forever and were exactly what I ordered.
I did however, anticipate this and ordered many parts during the winter so I would have them by spring. They have several kit packages that you can buy to get all the parts you need.
