: How's my stance look?

I'm not sure how streetable it's going to be... I'm sure I'll have to raise the front adjusters once I get the interior in, and front clip on, but it just looks too damn cool the way it is right now. :D

Front crossmember height is 3"
The frame below the front of the rocker is at 5"
The frame below the rear of the rocker is at 6.5"

I think with my 25" front tires, I may be able to keep it this low

Looks real nice, I have a '68 that I'm going to take in a pro-touring direction from it's current drag oriented direction and I like the way your ride sits. What wheels/size are those? doing my homework. Good luck on the project.

looks real good, but of course for it to be functional, it has to come back up, don't worry everyone goes through this phase!

Hey Derek,

Looks good!

What springs are you running in the rear?

Derek69SS
Apr 6th, 06, 9:55 AM
Thanks guys!

Front springs are 5" x 9.5" 700# AFCO w/ height adjusters set at 2" (total 11.5" free height)

Rear springs are temporary, but they are stock with about 3/4 of a coil cut off. (which according to the spring-rate formula, comes to 110# before, and 150# now) Free height is ~11". I will be replacing them with 175# springs after the road-trip to Nashville.

The rear will come up a bit when I adjust the pinion angle, the front will probably need to be adjusted up after all of the weight is on it.

Looks great. But what are you doing? By the pictures in your sig it looks like that project is done... Maybe I missed something, whats going on?

The car was painted & driveable for the last 5 years, but it had a rusty frame, nasty looking floors, a worn out 400sbc, and the suspension was basically rebuilt stock.

I wanted to update the suspension and put in the LT1/4L60e, but I decided now was the time to fix the other problems, so I got a different frame, and started building that last summer while I kept the car driveable.

Like every project I do, it just took on a life of its own... Started with an LT1 swap, and next thing you know, the body is off the frame :D

Glad to hear I'm not the only one - Maybe we could start a virtual support group of some kind - Meet at 8:00 PM, 3 days a week on how to exercise restraint when doing a car project!

The meetings could start with each person introducing themself and acknowledging their lack of common sense, good judgment and basic understanding of ecomomics when it comes to their Chevelle! :D

The stance looks great Derek. Very serious looking.

I have to ask though,is "How`s my stance look?" the male version of "Does this make my butt look big?". :) Mark SC&C

Looks awesome! What are your wheel/tire sizes?

Derek69SS
Apr 11th, 06, 7:57 PM
Front: 15x7" 3-3/4"B.S. 235/60
Rear: 15x8" 3-3/4"B.S. 255/60 *also has 1" narrower '66 rear axle, so that backspacing actually works well on it*

Hopefully by about August, I'll have some money to drop on new wheels (http://www.budnik.com/roadwheeldetail.asp?scid=56&pid=529&pg=1)
Front: 17x9.5 with 275/40s
Rear: 17x11 with 315/35s
I haven't measured to figure the new wheels' backspacing yet, but I know they'll fit if I get it just right

Do the headers come down any further than the crossmember? I've bumped mine once on a set of railroad tracks already and I'm not sure mine is as low in the front as yours. Mine are also a hair stiffer at 750#s.

I really liked your cars stnace before though. In the signature pic it looks 100% perfect to me.

Apr 11th, 06, 8:50 PM
btw do people call your car purple too? mines the same color and people keep asking if its purple...

Derek69SS
Apr 12th, 06, 9:47 AM
The headers are intermediate length, so they do not go lower than the crossmember. I'll probably raise the front up to 4" at the crossmember, but I'll wait until I have the front sheetmetal on it. I want to keep it as low as possible, but still functional, so I'll need the sheetmetal on it to figure out where that point is.

The "purple" comments only occur at night, under artificial light. In the sun, there's no mistaking that it's BLUE

Derek,

Your car looks great. It looks exactly like what I am building right now. My 69 is actually Daytona Blue (03-06 Nissan 350Z) and it will be getting an LT1 motor in the near future. I keep checking on the status of your car so I can imagine what mine will look like when its done. Are you planning on being at CB06?? If so, I definitely want to check your car out.

I will be at CB'06, but whether or not the Chevelle will be there, I am unsure... I still have a lot to do on it, but I'm steadily making progress :)
