: 68 big block lower rad hose.
William Hennke Apr 5th, 06, 11:43 PM I ordered a lower rad hose for my 68 ss and it seems to be to long.It is a reproduction with part # 3937733UR.Has anyone used one of these hoses? If you cut enough off to make it work the hose would be too small to go around the pump. Thanks,Bill

Bill, Thats the right part number. You shouldn't have to cut it to make it fit. Where did you get the hose? I got mine from Hinshaws a couple years ago. No one else had them at the time.... I didn't have to cut it.
William Hennke Apr 6th, 06, 1:23 PM Bill,I got it from greenwood chevy they sell on ebay.I had some money in my paypal acc so I just bought it from them.I will try to take a pic of it and post it on here and we can see if it looks like yours. Thanks!
mild68ss Apr 6th, 06, 2:31 PM I recently ordered a lower hose for my BB 68 and it was too long too.
I called them back and they gave me the typical we haven't had any other complaints bit.
It was the same number hose as the one I was replacing, just longer in between the curves.
Hello , What ever you do Do NOt Cut. I would send it back and go to Year one. I got mine there and had no problem. I have a 68 chevelle ss. but if it is wrong ,they will take it back without any hassle. Just don't throw away receipt. Send a copy back so you have the original copy . Jim B
ssal396 Apr 6th, 06, 5:02 PM Heck, I just went to NAPA & got one over the counter for my 69, fit like a glove..
Are you sure the radiator is correct??

LJM Sep 10th, 06, 12:34 PM I just ordered (2) lower hoses for my 68ss from modern chevrolet and both are to long. Same here as Mild68ss stated.....right curves just longer overall.
I called them and they told me they haven't heard of any problem. It seems like so much of this aftermarket stuff doesn't line up and some companies don't seem to care when you say you had a problem. So thats now two companies i won't deal with, modern chevy and right stuff.
Bill Rose Sep 10th, 06, 1:19 PM Ken, owner of Ground-Up, called me a while back, with concerns about the 68 BB lower rad hoses that were being reproduced. He knew about the problem and was working with a different company, to have a better fitting lower hose manufactured. Knowing I had a 68 BB, he wanted me to look at it, and compare it to the original one I had. He sent it to me and I fit the new one on my car. It fit fine. I believe they are now selling the new hose. I know they get trashed now and then here on TC, but this shows how they are trying to improve some of the repro parts...
Thanks for the info Bill,
I met Ken back in 1991 at a few car shows and he's a great guy. It's funny how i first met him. I went to the swap meet at Lake Comp. in Ct and i was pulling chevelle parts out of my pickup to sell. I look over and he was pulling a 70 boxed rear control arm /sway bar setup out of the pickup and told me SOLD !!
BTW his company wasn't called Ground Up at the time it was Pristine Motors. The Company moved to CT and is now only 45 mins from my house, but i haven't been there yet.
Rick T Sep 10th, 06, 1:37 PM this sounds very familiar to me
i have a 68, converted to SS
396 came out of a 75 pick up (originally out of a 66 chevelle)
bought a brand new 68 396 hose from NPD, had the GM # on it and everything, and it was too long, and had the wrong angles.
so we decided we might have to go with a custom hose, so for a baseline, we just put on the hose off the 75 pick up, and it fit perfectly, so we just ordered a hose for a 75 pickup and put it on. im sure this is because i have the wrong water pump
What gets me is not the fact that the repro part is wrong, it's when you call them back and tell them there is a problem with the fit and you want to return the item. No biggee just let me return the item but than you get " we never had a problem you must be a newbee"
