: Chrome Wheelwell Moldings....Yes or No?
Cable Jan 8th, 03, 3:08 AM I was just wondering if I should replace my chrome wheelwell moldings or just leave them off.
The car is my '70 Elco. It will be painted a darker cherry red with white "SS" stripes on a SS hood.
I always planned to leave them off, what do you guys think looks better, on or off?
Thanks.

70Elky396 Jan 8th, 03, 5:26 AM I like them. You need to fit them up before you paint the Elky though. I didn't pre fit mine and I didn't want to risk scratching my new paint tweaking them into place.

I would put them on for sure. They add just the right amount of chrome to the side of a car.

TimC Jan 8th, 03, 11:36 AM I've never liked 'em. I'd leave 'em off. In fact, I'm in the process of a rodification on a 68 el Camino. I've shxt-canned just about all of the trim. I think it looks swoopier without it.
Just my .o2. Looks like I'm in the minority though
Cable Jan 8th, 03, 12:00 PM I guess I should of mentioned that I have already trashed all the other side trim chrome. About the only chrome left is the bumpers, drip rails, and bed chrome.

That's about where I'm at. Are you keeping the badges? I sorta like the script emblems and have kept them. I'm still wondering whether I should trash the Malibu emblems.

RAMBO Jan 8th, 03, 2:01 PM Take a look at the pics in my sig to see what it will look like WITHOUT them.... I don't like it this way, Just bought a used set here a month ago- should be getting them put on soon. (BTW- the repop set i bought didn't even come close to fitting)
The last owner of my car took off all the chrome- including the grill chrome. I should post a pic with the grill chrome back on- looks much better now IMO- Should look much better when i get the wheel well chrome back on as well.

Cable Jan 9th, 03, 12:12 AM I think your right Kevin, they are polished stainless.
But you know what I meant....that's what matters http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif.
I think I might but them on after all.
So I should fit them before painting.....but should they be on during painting and just taped off?

BK72SS Jan 9th, 03, 1:24 AM You should install them after painting.

Just put them on temporarily before painting to make sure all the screw holes line up- mark and drill for new ones if they don't, or if you don't have any to begin with.
The 69's anyway are clear anodized aluminum.

65elcamino Jan 10th, 03, 4:03 PM I vote for putting them on. I removed some of the trim, but not all. It looks too plain without any bright trim. I have the drip rails, wheel mldgs, bed rails, and crossed flags. I deleted the door window frame, engine displacement, hood letters, tailgate letters, and rocker sill mldgs.

I really think it looks much better... Can't wait to see it in the sun... (you can tell my paint looks very different on coudy days(today) vs sunny days (before)
Anyway, hope this helps!
