: Fuel line question.

I'm getting closer and closer to dropping my 489 into my 68 camaro. I bought a carter 172 gph mech fuel pump with -10 AN line from tank to pump and -8 AN line from pump to carb. Carb is a Pro Systems 1000 HP. My old fuel line was the stock 3/8" (I think?) from tank to pump. My question is this. Can I just disconnect the old line from the tank, or do I need an entire new pick up to accept the larger fuel line? I was trying to avoid any tank mods, but I figure that if I hook up a 10 AN line to a 3/8 outlet at the tank-then whats the use of the 10 AN line? Any opinions? Thanks.

You might be able to use the 3/8 line if the car is primarly a street strip deal without any NOS. You can search the fourm and find a thread about changing the sending unit to 1/2 inch. I did that myself years ago pretty easy.

What all did that entail, removing the tank I'm sure?

Exactly! You should change the pickup as well.

Removing the tank not difficult just make sure it's empty. Once that's done you can access the pick-up. How much power is your engine making? This will help determine how much fuel you really need. 3/8 might be ok.

pull the tank down, remove the sender, put a #10 bulk head fitting in place of the stock fuel line pick-up tube, apply short length of #10 aluminum tubing to go inside tank as a new pick-up, connect everything back together, you're done & only have to do it "Once".. good luck..

This engine will be making near 600 hp. How do I get the -10 bulk head fitting in the tank? Or should I just take it to a shop and have them do it? Think again, what "kind" of shop could I take it to?

Radiator shops usually do work on gas tanks also.

I made this same modification with a 1/2" line.
