These heads were on what is supposed to be an L88. Since some sicko ground off the numbers on the block the actual type is unknown, but the heads are sweet Z16. My question is what to do with them. If I sell 'em what are they worth? I worry about using them because I can't run regular gas with the compression on this 427. Let me know your expert opinions! samiot@msn .com

Aren't Z16 heads the same as 1965 Corvette/fullsize L78/L72 heads? Probably worth between $500 and $2000++, depending on condition and how badly someone wants them...

If that's the case, it's probably a matter of how the are advertised. An ash tray for a Malibu is not worth as much as one for a Z16, you know. ;)

Confused...are you talking heads or engine block? Did someone grind the casting number off the heads or have the block decked so the stamped numbers aren't readable? Z16 heads should have casting number 3856208 and also used on 65 396/425 Chev/Pass and Corvette. One year only and not released until Jan 1 of 1965 at that when the 396 was released so they'd have a short production run since the 3873858 head was released for the 1966 model year.
All 65 parts on Ebay are for Z16's.

re answers to Z16 request for info: Thanks for the responce. These heads are cherry, though not fresh [ mileage unknown ]. I know about the ultimate '65 Vette engine with 208 heads, and that's probably what these are from, but this is a Chevelle forum so... The engine could very well be an L88 but with no suffix in the front and block numbers gone, I can't tell. 88 is however stamped here and there on mating surfaces. Parts for Z16s only are very rarely found on Ebay unless they are repops. Haven't seen any heads so I guess it depends on how bad they're needed, but...?
