: Think I'd better seel out. Need advice
PaulR Apr 5th, 06, 11:08 AM Hello all. I have a '70 convertible I've been working on for years. At this point, it's still in a million pieces. I've got more money in this thing than the GDP of a small country. My lifestyle just isn't conducive to keeping and finishing this project. My question is, how can I get the most amount of my money back out? Should I get it running, and sell it as a runner, or should I just break it down and sell the pieces. :(
SS_Dave Apr 5th, 06, 11:19 AM If its in pieces now, sell it piece by piece.
The best return by far, if you put up with all the
shipping.
Unless, the car is numbers matching perfect, or good condition.
In that case you may want to sell it all as is.
Dean Apr 5th, 06, 11:21 AM Man, that ALL sure sounds familiar (except for the EFI part)
I say get it running
but then if you do that you might as well keep it
PaulR Apr 5th, 06, 11:37 AM Yeah, I have no place to keep it or work on it where I live now. It's going to be way too nice to park it out in the driveway. And, it's a way big pain in the posterior to work on outside. So, I guess I'll get my digicam out and start EBaying. It really kind of makes me sad, because there is sentimental value to the car. But I can't let my heart run my life.
RedSS454 Apr 5th, 06, 11:52 AM Hi Paul. Sorry that you have to let it go.Why don't you total all your investment, and post it here as a basket case.A one shot sale, see what it brings. No ebay hassel.post some photos of the project on our site.
there are enough chevelle nuts on this site someone will make you an offer. good luck
PaulR Apr 5th, 06, 12:00 PM That's a decent idea. Maybe I'll put something in the classified here as well. I accept the fact I'm going to take a pretty substantial bath. I just want to keep the bleeding down as much as I can. Funny how changes in employment and marital status can change things you wouldn't expect.
no1dc Apr 5th, 06, 12:43 PM I know this is selfish but I'd hate to see you part it out. Sounds like a good project car and they're not making 70 convertibles anymore. Hope someone buys it complete and we don't lose another rebuildable/restorable car to parting out. On the other hand I understand your wanting the biggest bang for your buck. Yeah life does suck at times. Good luck. Pete

If anyone will buy it that way, that's probably the best way to get the money out of it. The ideal person to buy it would be someone who knows what it costs to restore a car, and can appreciate the value of what you have put into it so far. It will all depend on if you can find that person, and this is probably one of the best places to advertise.
I had to part out cars I was working on twice, and as much at it hurt to do so, I did get twice as much for them as I would have if I had sold them as unfinished project cars. It was a hassle to advertise, having people calling around the clock haggling about the price, meeting with tire kickers, shipping parts etc, but it was worth it in the end.

possibly rent storage? Those warehouses have all different size units to store stuff in, including small garage size units. Might be a lack of power though..Generator time! Then you can get it to running condition and sell with all the parts or do whatever you want with it. From the people I've spoken to, a lot of people can be kind of "iffy" taking on a project like that (in a million pieces project- unless it's all bagged and labeled). On the other hand, if you start parting it out, you could come up short if someone gives you an offer (less parts=less money sort of thing). Just my two cents, good luck none the less.
T-Man Apr 5th, 06, 1:35 PM Mickey Hale is looking for a car like yours, send him an email or give him a call.

drptop70ss Apr 5th, 06, 3:05 PM I am local and interested, shoot me an email with details and a price.
MJRIBEIRO Apr 5th, 06, 3:08 PM Paul - I'm in NJ - I'd take that info as well.
PaulR Apr 5th, 06, 3:42 PM Well, I think it would be best to write up a Word document to describe what has been done to the car thus far, and perhaps take some pics. Whoever wants to loook at it can PM me. I never really tracked what I spent on the car, because it would make me sick to know. But I don't want to break the rules here, so I'll leave this that way.
