A while ago I posted a thread about my Spiznagel spot weld driller and got a number of nice responses. I thought I would post another about a tool that I feel is needed in every pros tool box. For that matter, the serious home hobbyest will find it very useful as well. It is the Roper Whitney hand punch. No, this isn't one of those junk $20.00 Chinese tools you get at the junk tool store, these are the real thing.
Because of that, they are a real money too. The "No. 5 Jr." is about $125.00 and the "No. XX" is about $175.00 in kit form.
I have both and wouldn't live without them. They are so far superiour to those panel punchers that the auto body tool places sell. They only have about a 3/4" throat while the Jr has 1 and 3/4" and the XX has a 3 and a 1/4!. The kit has about six or seven dies so if you had both you would have dies for 1/8" up to about 1/2 inch.
For fabrication work they are invaluable. I couldn't imagine working without them. For punching holes for plug welding, they reach where others can't, and you have the choice of the hole size. I can't say enough about them, they are well worth the money. Click on the link to go directly to the Roper Whitney catalog page.
