Well I took the dash out and what a nice surprise when you pop the lens off, the gauges under the lens look like they should, lots of color and they look new but over the years the front of the lens has small scratches from people trying to clean it.
Does anybody sell the lens new or is there a way to take the scratches out.
After cleaning all the dust off the lens it is alot better but could really look better without the scratches.
I'm not going to try and clean the face of the gauges since they look ok.
Please let me know if someone sells the lens for a 69 chevelle new or how I can take the scratches out
Thanks
Jerry

A company called "Novus" makes a lot of good products for getting rid of the scratches. I have also used a VERY light automotive polishing compound with good results.

Your in luck I just did 6 housings and they all came out perfect.
Read this thread I started. I did not remove the brass rivet I bead blasted inside and the back side then chemical cleaned them then painted with correct green paint and used a rust proof clear coat on the back now they look perfect. I also polished my plastic lenses and they are perfect now.

I used plastic polish from Griot's Garage http://www.griotsgarage.com Worked excellent. I use a LOT of their products....a bit pricey but all excellent stuff.

stick with 1badss396, he won't steer ya wrong! I just did my cluster, and it came out great.

my tip for the lens is as follows..saw it on a previous post here somewhere..there is a company called micro-mark out there that sells lots of tools/supplies for models and hobbies...they sell a plastic polishing kit with sanding cloths from 2400 up to 12000 grit+a polishing compound.

I had some deep scratches, looked like the lens got hit with a thrown set of keys! I actually wet sanded using 220, then kept stepping up..400, 800, 2400..then followed the micro mark instructions all the way up to 12000. Then finish with their liquid compound THEN hit it with the 2 step meguiars polish...results were no less than stunning!

super super fine lines can be seen in the right light, but I know in the car they will be crystal clear..takes some time and some patience, but well worth the effort!
