: Edelbrock or Holley
shaddow Apr 4th, 06, 4:26 PM Crate 350, mild cam, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap, Dart Iron Eagle heads, 1 5/8 headers, TH-350, b&m holeshot 2400 TC, 4.11 rear end...
I'm looking at the Holley Street Avenger 670cfm electric choke with vacuum secondaries or the Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650cfm electric choke w/ vacuum sec. Just looking to see what you guys think, definitely not going with the Demon after all the horror stories I've read and heard, so keep that in mind. If anyone, however, has a better option from those two manufacturers, chime in. I'm just strapped for cash right now because I had to order a new TH350.
72silverchevelle Apr 4th, 06, 4:30 PM I have a holley with a similar set up. I love it. It gives great responce, but I have heard elderbrock is more of a "stree" carb than holley.
Jimmyhotrod Apr 4th, 06, 4:40 PM I have the Edelbrock 650 electric choke. Worked right out of the box! I love it, have had it on the motor for 15 years.
vrooom3440 Apr 4th, 06, 7:18 PM Neither, go EFI!
Motorhead Apr 4th, 06, 7:49 PM Edelbrock
blu66velle Apr 4th, 06, 7:52 PM ive got the same story as jimmy hotrod but ive only had mine 10 years
erikbuzz Apr 4th, 06, 8:05 PM Edelbrock all the way.
bkcraun Apr 4th, 06, 8:16 PM When I put in my crate motor the Holley wouldn't run right. Switched to an Edelbrock and I am happy.
68_elcamino Apr 4th, 06, 8:35 PM quadrajet!
ocean1 Apr 4th, 06, 11:05 PM I had a Holley on my 396 but it didnt run right all the time without constant adjustments. I put in an Edelbrock 750 and right out of the box it ran perfect! I have since put smaller jets in the secondary but other than that I love it!
Jim Mac Apr 4th, 06, 11:19 PM Thermoquad!
68KMENO Apr 4th, 06, 11:44 PM WOW...... used to be everyone knew how to setup a holly .. now the universal carb that they sell is talked down .... & edelbrocks repo is the hot setup ........ the more things change the more they stay the same ;)

Edelbrock On My 72 For 9 Yrs. Not A Leak-no Stall-cold Start.
shaddow Apr 5th, 06, 12:28 AM The holley 600cfm I have on it right now IS leaking all over my new intake, plus the choke has been giving me problems so rather than a rebuild I'm going for new. Thanks for the replies.
Alwhite00 Apr 5th, 06, 6:31 AM I have an Edelbrock AVS 650 on my 70 and love it. Car would not hardly run with a holley, Put a old 600 Edelbrock on it and it ran/drove fine so then I ordered my 650.

69-CHVL Apr 5th, 06, 9:03 AM I don't understand all these Holley problems...I've must of had about 6 different Holleys on my car last year, some new, some old. ALL of these ran good and did not leak anything.

Thermoquad! I had one of those .It came on my 72 Duster 340 (850 cfm) I bought new..It was Plastic and worked liked it :clonk:
Moloko Apr 5th, 06, 9:39 AM Whatever you do don't get that street avenger. I bought one brand new, and even with it being sent back to holley, it never ran anywhere close to properly. I'd say the Edelbrock if you arnt running a very big cam.
Actually, Edit, Get a 650CFM Demon with electric choke.
Part #132-1282010VE
650 CFM Speed Demon Carburetors
Vacuum Secondary
Electric Choke
Mild 302-427ci Engines

shaddow Apr 5th, 06, 12:53 PM The Demon could unlock 50 horsepower and I still wouldn't purchase one. I'm not a gambling sort of person and after all I've heard about them I'm not going to take the chance with their shaky reputation. I'm just not going to pay $400 for a possible headache and then a sure headache in dealing with their tech line.
olooje Apr 5th, 06, 1:16 PM i got a 750 DP with the with all the proform up grades on the chevell works good, got a eld. 600 on the 4x4 works well also.i havent tried the avenger yet.i think if i was u i'd get the edelbrock for u'r application, just my opinion.good luck

*shrugs* I've never heard anything but great things from people who have them, and I have one myself. I'll never run anything but demons again.
shaddow Apr 5th, 06, 4:18 PM This website is chock full of threads bashing down the Demon's Tech Line, slews of posts claiming the carbs come with multiple problems such as debris in the carb and poor machining and threading, and if that's ALL I hear, I'm sorry, I'm not dishing out $400 for a probable problem. My carb that I have now is giving me enough problems, I'm trying to rid myself of those, not gain them, so I think I'll be going with the Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650cfm electric choke. I've heard from the people on this post and the technician I work with and another technician from an LT1, F-Body specialist shop that the Edelbrock is just a good reliable carb. No more leaks.

Yeah, but: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124612
Holleys are tried and true and work great. I've never used an Edelbrock carb but I've never heard of any real mechanical problems with them.
