: Darn by-pass hose, see pics
rednecks70 Apr 4th, 06, 12:21 PM I thought we determined that if you use a 45* fitting in the intake and a straight in the water pump that you wouldn't have a problem. Now if I can just get the 45* to stick out a little further I would be closer to getting this resolved, but even then the fittings are almost touching each other so how would I get the hose on? Sorry about the fuzzy pic on the close up.
A70LS5 Apr 4th, 06, 12:30 PM I've never tackled a project like that, so I may not know what i'm talking about, but from the looks of it, can't you take that 45 connector off and just have a strait pipe out of the manifold and then just connect the two with some hose that has a slight curve to it?
Motorhead62 Apr 4th, 06, 12:33 PM Redneck,
If you install a straight fitting in the intake you should be able to run a piece of 5/8" heater hose and be fine.
Good Luck
Fast Orange Apr 4th, 06, 12:35 PM run two 45's.. run the one off of the manifold at 3 oclock and the one off the pump at 3oclock.. then the hose is just a small loop.. otherwise it would look good with some an setups...

what if you got a nipple of the correct length for the intake, then a 45* threaded female fitting onto the nipple, to make your fittings line up.
remove water pump, slip on hose and install water pump.
follow what i'm trying to say?

Tried that last year with a 90* hose and it really didn't work. The hose almost burst because the clamp was cutting into it.

I think I know what your saying, but I might try to get an extension for the intake (behind the 45*) and see if that works. Somehow I think this pump is what the real problem is.

I think you need to get a pump that the bypass fitting is straight up, then with a 90* bypass hose it'll all work right. JMHO

I totally agree with you! But I hate to throw away a pump that only has 3000 miles on it.
Big James 4XL Apr 5th, 06, 3:50 PM Best solution, don't use the bypass!!!:waving:
Get or make a vented thermostat like Stewart Components makes and plug the bypass, period.

That should solve your problem.
BillK Apr 5th, 06, 8:05 PM This might sound stupid but .... why not just get the correct hose ??? They were still available about 4 months ago from my local parts store. Can't remember if it was Gates or Goodyear.

Chris R Apr 6th, 06, 2:51 AM Or. You can get a Englese "Cool-Flex" brand type metal bypass hose with fittings on each end. I use it my 396 and it works great.

No way!!!
That's way to simple!!!:D
Besides, eliminate the hose and there's one less chance of a cooling system leak.
