: Torquer 2-0 opinions for 496 bbc.
big454blockchevy Apr 3rd, 06, 11:45 PM Please your opinions for this intake. I have heard some bad things about it for the small block . Is it the same on a bbc? The guy building my 496 is intending to use this intake . Compression will be at 11 to 1 ,solid roller, scat 4.25 carnk, 6.385 H beam rods, cam specs269/278 at 050 698.700 107c , heads will be worked over 781s with 2.19/1.88 valvesetup
Bomber '67 Apr 3rd, 06, 11:54 PM Perfect for an oval port BBC running ~ 5,500 rpm and lower. That is a great street manifold.

This is what has me baffled, He knows this engine is spinning up to 6500rpms. This guy makes me wonder and I don't like it. :(
Bomber '67 Apr 4th, 06, 12:41 AM Put a tall carb spacer on there to get some more plenum volume and it'll do better than you think at 6,500 rpm. On my rectangular port 496 I use a vintage Edelbrock C454 dual plane with 1.5" of spacer (a 1/2" 4 hole, and a 1" open). The C454 is a large runner 4500 pattern (Dominator 1050 carb). Mine will easily spin past 7,000 rpm. From the hp peak at ~ 6,550 rpm it only loses 17 hp at 7,000 rpm.
The bonus of the C454 is that it pulls hard starting from 2,500 rpm - perfect on the street.
The more I think about it, the more I think the port and plenum volume of the 2-0 will be too small for a 496 at 6,500 rpm.

big454blockchevy Apr 4th, 06, 1:11 AM I am thinking of working something out with the guy to put on a professional produtcts single plane intake. Originally he said it was a dominator , all of a sudden it's a torquer 2-0.
427L88 Apr 4th, 06, 8:47 AM Complete mismatch with that HUGE cam. What the Eff is he thinking? You eventually end up with a single plane for best ET if the guys around here are any indication. Or an Air Gap, or a nice small tunnel ram, BUT NOT A TORKER!
Why stuff a big SR cam in and piddle around with bs intakes??? Don't get it.
Is it the oval port match that has him buggered? In this case, a rect port may just work . This thing isnt desinged to pull away from stop lights at 1500 rpms man!
bracketchev1221 Apr 4th, 06, 8:55 AM I would not use it. That thing is too small and an antique. For a 6500 rpm I lke the performer rpm air gap. But for the size of your motor and cam I think a victor jr. or a strip dominator for the 4150 carbs.
Motorhead62 Apr 4th, 06, 9:54 AM That intake manifold (the Torquer 2-O, big block Chevy) is a piece of JUNK!!!!! DO NOT USE IT!!!!! I had one on my Chevelle and I hated it. I only used it for hood clearance. It gave away too much torque on the bottom end and did not add anything on the top end. That intake is a compromised design intended for vehicles with less than optimal hood clearance.
Use a Performer RPM Air-Gap or a Victor Jr. And another thing, DON'T USE the cheap Chinese intake either!!!!!
JMO from my personal experiance.
Good Luck
ToyzRMe Apr 4th, 06, 12:16 PM I'd put a Holley Strip Dominator oval port PN #300-4 on that 496 and never look back. Just port match it a little and you'll love it. Use a Holley HP950 carb on top of it for a real nice combo.
Plus, it's only like $183 bucks at Jegs or Summit.

big454blockchevy Apr 4th, 06, 12:18 PM I'm off to the shop to get this issue squared away. Who knows I may end up with all my stuff back.
