What's the right color for the part of the distributor that has the date codes on it? Is it Chevy Orange or does it stay bare aluminum?? I know the shaft is Chevy orange but I am wondering about this part. Also, the vacuum advance part that sticks out is a little discolored from time; do you think that if I sprayed it with aluminum colored spraypaint it would look ok (like in a show) or should I get a new one? Thanks!

The dist from a number of the virgin engines that I have torn down over the years have had paint overspray around the base of the dist where it contacts the intake. I have never seen overspray around the area of part/date number stamping.
The original vacuum canisters appear to be cad plated. You can use a diluted solution of muratic acid (from local hardware store) to brighten it up.
