Hi guys...my name is Ryan and I am new to this great forum. I am currently starting on a restoration of a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. I took off the front fenders today and ran into a problem. On the passenger side where the lower portion of the fender bolts onto is rusted out pretty badly. I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on how to remedy this. And also, is this a pretty common problem? I really doubt that a reproduction part would be available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Below are a couple pics I took today of the problem area.

I guess it just depends on your resourses,Do you have a mig welder?a 3" cut off wheel, ect.I just get flat stock,or cut the metal off another old car and make the peices I need.I looked in the opg catalog and diddnt see any replacments for that, maybe someone else might know(chime in) where to get them, other gm cars around that year might be close enough to what you have and can be modified to work.check the junkyards around you for maybe a fourdoor, even if it a buick, pontiac,or any other gm around that year,Darryl

Yeah, flat stock to make your own, or check the salvage yards. Most salvage yards will cut out area's for you upon request, usually costs a small bit more. Get a MIG (buy or borrow) to weld in replacement with. I'm still new to this stuff myself but was able to make quite a few panel replacements with sheet stock and basic hammer/dolly tools.

I wouldn't call it a lost cause, but evaluate it closely to see just how bad it is. Start poking around with a screw driver or awl. If you can weld (or know someone who can) you'll be fine.

I have no fenders on the front of my 70' right now, and if you want some good pictures of the area let me know and I'd be happy to get you a few to work from. Would help aid in the reconstruction of the area. Just post here, or send me an email and i'd be happy to help, as iI've gotten plenty of help here myself. Would be paying back for the cause you could say :)

I have the same problem. I am just now starting to form the piece. Mine is much worse, has rusted the inner part also.

I tried to get from a donner car, but the price I think was $125.
