I'm STILL having fuel delivery problems. A friend of mine is trying to convince me that it's the pump. I have a Carter 172 that has less than 5k miles on it, I bought it new.

Anyone ever heard of problems with them being faulty or going bad? Any reason it would not be able to adequately supply fuel on a 425hp 350 small block that revs to 6500-6700?

I have another long thread about my whole issue, but here I just wanted to know specifically about the pump. I'm not inclined to try and change it if it's unlikely to be the culprit. I'd rather rule out a couple other things first.

anything can go bad, but that pump should be way more than enough, if your fuel system is set up right-i was running one on a s/c recently, but it was pushing its limits, so i switched over to a howard stewart race pump, shortly after that i lost f/p-i went thru everything, had the pump tested, etc-ended up being the fuel pump lobe on the cam, it was worn down almost round(cam only had 300 miles on it) the throw on the lobe is around .340 new(you can measure the pushrod in/out) mine was below .150
not sure what caused it to go bad, but with the new cam everythings ok now
just something to ck if all else fails-one other thing i found in all this, fuel pres drops some as a mech pump heats up, at least with the h/s race pump
