: Tach LS6?

I realize the tach was an added feature and it wasn't part of the SS guage package, so how many LS6 built cars, did NOT come with a tach? I am not looking for the 5500rpm vs 6500rpm issue. I am just curious with those of you that have a documented LS6, do any of you NOT have a tach?

It always makes me question people when they say they have a LS6, but it doesn't have a tach. Technically it is possible but I can't imagine that somebody would get a LS6 and not the tach.

Our '69 L78 Chevelle came without tach and gauges. Fortunately it came with the parts that count, M21, 4.10 gears, F40 suspension, and disc brakes. Actually, cars without gauges were quite common. Most young guys were pushing it just to get the big engines, leaving not much money for extras.

That stands to reason. I hadn't thought about that. So far though the LS6 responders are in the "tach" phase.

My LS6 El Camino had bucket seats, numerous other options, and guages. My LS6 Chevelle was basically stripped (except for cowl hood), even including std rear ratio, bench seat and NO guages.

I was told that one of the main reasons for not ordering the guages was that,
many people didn't trust the factory ones and would put their own set of aftermarket guages in that were more reliable.

The LS6 motor with the tach option was a 6500 rpm tach so why would you want to go with a 5500 rpm tach?

Just wondering why you would prefer the 5500 rpm tach.

When I ordered my LS5 in Feb 70, No gauges Why? What kind of an oil pressure gauge did you get with the gauge pkg. Oil pressure is not important to the marketing people. Bob

I am not sure if my Elcamino would fall into the catagory of being documented. I do have a copy of the origianl MSO that was obtained with the MVA title search which states Taxable horsepower and according to that it is at the least an LS5. I also got the factory block with it, CRR stamp and VIN stamp are correct as far as I can tell. If that is enough then add me to the No Tach list.

It has a oil warning light in the center of the tach.

I was afraid people would take thre 5500 rpm tach question off on a tagent about how no LS6 cars came with a 5500 rpm tach.

I know of 4 LS6's in my area, and none of them had a tach. It would be more interesting to see how many LS6's had cloth interior instead of the vinyl...

Going off memory I believe I have at least three in the Registry. I have many without tachs.
