I have read a bunch of posts on here about using Valvoline brand oil. Can someone tell me why? I usually buy whatever name brand is on sale at the local parts store. Why is Valvoline better than mobile, shell, castrol etc.

Read the above sticky "bad cams". Oil companies have reduced the amount of zinc content for the EPA. Comp Cams also has an article on their site about this too. This has been dicussed in great lenth on Performance Years tech forum if you don't mind Pontiac people.....lol. You will also find the zinc content for most major brands of oil listed there. Haven't seen it here but good reading none the less. My .02 is any qualilty, brand name oil is ok as long as you use STP oil treatment or GM's EOS break-in lube at every oil change.
