im ready to put my new package tray in my 70 chevelle. are there any bolts that i have to undo to get the back seat out? do i only need to take the top part of the rear seat out?
Thanks!

You have to take the bottom out first in order to get to the bolts that hold the back. The bottom is attached to the floors with hooks, and it's usually enough to push down on the seat right where the hooks are to be able to unhook it. Can't remember if you need to push it back or pull it forward to get it unhooked (I think you pull it forward), but you can see the hooks if you use a flashlight and look through the seam between the seat bottom and the floorpan.

The back is attached with hooks at the top and bolts at the bottom. Once you get the bottom out, you'll see the bolts at the bottom of the back. Take the bolts out, and slide the seat up and off the hooks.

Do what dgwar said, but twice. Once directly behind the driver's seat and once directly behind the passenger's seat. I put my knee on the seat to push down and shove straight back without lifting until you feel the seat slide back. The hooks are u shaped with the opening in the back.

Grab a shop light and look under the seat and you'll clearly see the hook mechanism. You may even have to get in there with a screwdriver on a particularly stubborn hook.

Take a peek and you'll see it.

I just don't have the knack to effortlessly bump them out and usually use a screwdriver to coax them.

thanks a lot guys ur info helped a lot. i got the seat out but man the driver's side hook was a pain. the left part of the hook was bent so it took awhile to get it out. i had to resort to the good ole right leg to get it out :)
thanks again
