storm Mar 30th, 06, 7:12 PM just want to know if there is something is wrong with mine. its a small 10/2 amp automatic 50amp engine start. about a year old. when connected to a known good battery it charges for about 5 seconds then the green light comes on says fully charge then it goes out and the amp needle goes back up and starts charging again then the green light goes on. its been repeating that. the troubleshooting number i called the guy said thats how they work and when its fully charged the green light will stay on.wanted to see if anybody else has the same model and if that works the same way.. model #200.71222 thanks storm

Its defective. I have had 2 similar automatic chargers 10/2 amp variety. They don't last, and they don't work well. They keep kicking on and off constantly, I finally bought a big charger with wheels. Its a cornwell tools one, made by midtronics. Very good charger, cost $350 but I use it professionally. I can't afford to have my equipment crap out on me.
You should be able to find a schumacher or something that will last. Not only that, but should you ever need a jump start or something, they can handle the job.

storm Mar 30th, 06, 7:57 PM my warranty is still good so back to sears tomorrow . i had one that was a craftsman years ago and last about 8 years oh well what do you expect since kmart and sears got together? crap.
surfingreg Mar 30th, 06, 8:15 PM I have the older version of that one...got it about 10 years ago and its still working....bummer to have to go back but at least they stand behind all their stuff.. good luck
storm Mar 30th, 06, 8:23 PM surfingreg i probaly had the same one always worked. i need a small one so i can carry it to my drive way mainly to keep my deep cycles on my boat always charged. can anyone recommed one? i looked at boatersworld no go i really dont want to get one from snap on besides i think they only carry the one with wheels.
Finally Mar 30th, 06, 9:41 PM I have an older version of that one too. Are you sure the battery is good. On a shorted battery that is what happened with mine. On a good battery it charged like it should.
storm Mar 30th, 06, 10:03 PM yup brand new one then tried a second battery same thing. well i shouldnt say brand new i got it mid summer last year just like to top off the battery before i put it back in the boat so this would be a first for this battery.
JWagner Mar 30th, 06, 10:54 PM I have a Schauer 6&12 volt that is working fine. Look for one at yard sales. Mine was bought in new 1963 for $10, so the old ones must be cheap by now. Do not pay over $5 .
Slick71ss Mar 30th, 06, 11:06 PM I have that exact same charger. It doesn't do what you explained. It'll charge the battery and once the green light comes on, it stays on and the battery is fully charged. I only use the 2 amp charge, but I'm sure it would be the same for 10 amp mode too.
Finally Mar 31st, 06, 7:09 AM yup brand new one then tried a second battery same thing. well i shouldnt say brand new i got it mid summer last year just like to top off the battery before i put it back in the boat so this would be a first for this battery. That's exactly what I was trying to do, now I have to replace both batteries. They are getting pretty old. It works fine on the car and other batteries.
JYags Mar 31st, 06, 10:22 AM I'm curious, if the battery is fully charged, what's the problem? Sounds like you have the charger set on the 10A fast-charge mode instead of the 2A trickle. If it's not charging a dead/low battery or is showing a false full-charge reading for a known dead battery, then it's bad.
Get a Battery Tender Plus 1.25A if you want a good trickle/float charger to maintain the charge while in storage without overcharging.
Realhummer Mar 31st, 06, 10:40 AM I have the same identical charger for at least 10 years and I never had a problem, just charged my chevelle battery last weekk. I would take it back to sears and make them replace it. Good Luck ! Bob
Xtreme70SS396 Mar 31st, 06, 10:45 AM Well, you know the switch on the left is for the conventional (Car) battery setting, not on the deep cycle setting, right? You indicated you wanted it for the deep cycle, might want to flip the switch to test it again.
However, sounds like it's a bad unit.
I've had the older version of that same charger for a decade, works great.
