Hey does anyone know what a 12 bolt rear drum to drum weighs? I need to get a quote on shipping one. I was going to try greyhound but it looks like their max weight is 100lbs so truck freight is the only way. Will fed ex or UPS ship an assembled rear?
I shipped a 8.5" Nova rearend about 2 years ago, had to go with Fedex. Their weight limit was 150 lbs at the time, Don't know if that has changed. I had to strip it of everything... no guts, axles, drums or anything and it barely made weight. I did build wooden 'crate' around it with 1x2s and plywood and added some rope handles which made the Fedex guys really happy! There is also a size limit when shipping based on square inches of area, so be sure to find that out before you pack it up!
Good luck,

I recently shipped complete 12 bolt from East Tx to Chicago. The cheapest I could find was Yellow Freight. They supplied the pallet, wrapped it with cardboard and strapped it down. $180.

When I had my Moser 12bolt shipped they used Old Dominion. I think the price was fairly reasonable. Give them a call and see.

We ship big stuff either by UPS Logistics or FedEx. I just shipping a wooden spool with 3000 feet of double armored steel side scan sonar tow cable (450 lbs) and an electric winch (225 lbs). The total bill was $125 for both. We do get a discount with out corporate account but I'm not sure by how much.

If you can ship it in 2 packages, it can go UPS. I shipped a 12 bolt with no brakes and no axle shafts by UPS a few years ago. They wanted it wrapped with cardboard so that no sharp edges were exposed.

well if a 10 bolt weights 220, the 12 bolt probably weighs 275, or at least that should be a safe guess. I would rather keep the rear together but the two box method may be the most cost effective. Jwagner did you have the carrier and gears in that 12 bolt? I think UPS has a 150 lb limit, maybe without the axles and brakes it would make it?

The differential and gears were still in it.
