Im going to install my rear windshield tomorrow and I needed to know a few things first. I had taken the rear windshield out a few months ago to check and made a few minor repairs around the lip or pinchweld (if that is the correct term, correct me if Im wrong) I had sanded and cleaned good around that area and had to apply a little POR-15 Epoxy Putty in a few areas. One area in paticular was the left side,at the bottom corner. But first I had applied a few coats of POR-15 Silver, then applied the POR-15 Epoxy Putty, smoothed it out well, then applied another coat of POR-15 Silver, and finally a coat of POR-15 Chassis Black. My question is this: I have a 3M Window-Weld Ribbon Sealer auto glass replacement kit (includes setting blocks) 3M part no.#08611, 5/16"x15'. Is this the right size (5/16") to use for replacing the rear windshield on a 68 Chevelle, and is all that I should have to do is install this ribbon and setting blocks not needing to put any kind of window weld primer on that area or anything like that, CORRECT??? Being that it has been freshly painted in that area tonight at 7:30 pm with the POR-15 Chassis Black.I know to clean the windshield area where it will meet ribbon pressed on the pinchweld area. When I took the glass out,I put 3M masking tape on the glass and on the body in several places on both sides and on top and bottom to use as a align-up guides when re-installing glass.Should I have to use any kind of sealer after glass is set into ribbon? If so what? And finally how long after setting glass should I wait before driving the car? Any help would be appreciated on this matter.
