: PPG DTM? Anyone have some experience with it?

It seems really hard to get info from anyone using this stuff. Today I called 15 different PPG distributors in San Jose and Sacramento and only one had heard of it. He said it was the bomb, one product for all and bondo goes on top plus it seals and has corrosion protection. The data sheet didn't say anything about applying fillers over it or anything about corrosion protection.

Yes.. I primed my "fresh from the blaster" chevelle with it.. works like a charm.. I have seen bondo go over and under this product and have not seen any poor results.. I would recommend. Also coverage, flowout, and ease of use is compareable to top quality primers on the market..

I am almost ready to take mine to the blaster. I want to know more about this product.

What is the price like? Can you skip the sealer primer over the top of the initial primer or should you still use it?

Is this a new product?

My opinions are usually worth what they cost you. But once in a while I know what I am talking about. Humor, fun, a few new friends, and good ole knowledge of these classics are why I am here. Your mileage may vary. ACES # 04981

Steve,

I talked to tech the other day and yes it's an epoxy and has corrosion protection and no need to seal after mixing as a surfacer and blocking. Filler goes under or over. It's part of the "Global products" line. PPG's top of the line.

One thing I noticed is that there tech support is not the best and I have gotten contradicting info, but here is the phone# to the tech dept. 800-848-2683

This is what I got out of my PPG rep a few months ago about the DTM. DTM is the same stuff as ncp 270, just the DTM is under the Global label and the NCP 270 in under what I believe is called deltron or concept.

You can't find it because I don't believe it is compliant in your VOC regulated area. If I am not mistaken NCP270 is about 4.8 VOC and the primer surfacer max for Sac and the San Fran Bay area is 2.1. If you get on you bicyle and go up to the Red Bluff area (I am not sure how far you need to go, maybe only out of Sac county. Or if you go up and over into Lake county, there you can buy it for sure.

Actually we do have it here in sac. Both the NCP 270 and the DTM D8040. I think the VOC in my area is 3.5 and both meet that, acording to the data sheet online. I guess the requirement is also looser for home users. I'm not sure, but we do have it.

I would like to find out for sure if there the same. The general description on the data sheets is different and the NCP 270 is ISO free but no mention of that on the D8040.

That could save some bucks!

Looks like your write about them being the same. I just got of the phone to tech and he almost fessed up to it, but said that there was slight difference but could not specify.

From a user standpoint they both have the same benefits and are ISO free.
