I have a 67 2 dr hdt I'm selling (hit L/F) & I need to know if a 66 4 dr sdn or 67 El Camino frame is the same. I may have donor cars. Thanks

Isn't the four door frame the same?

2 door 66-67 GM 2 door A-body frames are identical. Convertables 2 door frames are boxed as opposed to open channels. Elky and 4 door frames are 4 inches longer. Elky frame is boxed, where 4 door is not.

You guys aren't helping me! Only kidding. I was hoping I could use the donor car. I believe your info is accurate. I'll have to sell as is or find another frame. Thanks again.

You can use the '67 elky frame with a little modification. The frame is 4" longer, but the wheelbase is the same 112". You just need to take 4" out of the length of the frame in the straight section behind the rear hump in the frame (behind where the rearend goes). Does that make sense? You should check the 4 door. It may also have the 112" wheelbase. Starting in '68 the 4 door and elky had a 116" wheelbase where the 2 door and convert. had 112". Good luck graemlins/thumbsup.gif

dansbelair,

Frames aren't too hard to find in your area............in the past month I found about six that were pretty decent shape for cheap...........finally settled on a excellent rolling chassis from NJ for $400.00.

Elky and 4 door frames are 4 inches longer.Wrong!

The 4-door frames are the same as 2-doors. El Caminos are just longer in the rear section (behind the rear wheels)...

Basically there are 4 different frames:
1) El Camino: boxed sides and longer after rearend

2) Wagon: non-boxed, but longer like El Caminos

3) Convertibles: Boxed center (like Elco)

4) Everything else, 2-door hardtops, 2-door posts, 4-doors...

So any 66-67 frame will fit the main portion, but Elco's and wagons will need the rear section shortened (swap on yours...)...

It was not until 1968 model year that the 2-door and 4-doors had differing wheelbases...

You can definitely use an El-C frame on a convertible. I've done it with my '66. I cut off the rear section of each of the frames, and welded my original Convertible frame to the El-C frame. It works fine. I believe that the El-C frame may be a heavier gauge metal than the conv. frame as well as being boxed, but I'm not positive about that. The gas tank mounting is completely different as well, so using your original back end of the frame may be necessary to clear the filler pipe. Some pictures of my "frame off" incl. the El-C frame modifications are on my web site:

Good luck!

Everything I've read on here says that the only difference between the convertible frame and the elky frame is the length in the back. I'm about to put my convertible on a shortened elky frame, do I now need to get an elky gas tank or something?
