I had been planning to just buy an Edelbrock 750 because of the great street manners and tune-it-and-forget-it qualities, but now I'm leaning towards a Holley Street Avenger carb instead. I've read that it's a great carb for a street car and I can buy one almost as cheap as the Edelbrock. Here's the details on my motor:
383ci on 4-bolt block
stock cast crank
5.7" Scat I-beam rods w/ 7/16" capscrews
SRP forged flat top pistons
AFR 195 heads (#1036)
Comp XR282HR (ground on billet core w/ 111LSA)
Comp retro-roller lifters
Comp Pro-Magnum 1.5 roller rockers
Air Gap RPM intake
Will be mated to a TKO-600 5spd.
3.42 gears
Given this info, would I better off with the 670 Street Avenger or the 770 Street Avenger? Or should I stick with my original choice of an Edelbrock 1407 750cfm? If the Holley Street Avenger can be as streetable as the Edelbrock then I would rather have the Holley.
Please help!

Oh boy here goes; The street avenger is very streetable. It's a nice carb for the price and the tune is pretty close for "out the box" performance. For you combo, the 770 seems to fit the bill. I wouldn't run nothing less no matter how many post you get that says you'll be better with the 390cfm for low speed torque. Contrary to popular belief, CFM don't mean s#*t. Booster signal and venturi size for pressure drop is critical.

I am running a 750 Edelbrock on my 383 right now and it is great! You have more cam than me, I would try the EPS 800! :D
Good Luck

JTW,
With all those goodies in that motor and the 5 speed, I'd go with a Holley 750HP double pumper. No doubt!
Anything less and you're cheating yourself...

Well Bill, I took your advice. I also posted this on the Nova forum I frequent and several guys there suggested that I use a 750 DP too. I bit the bullet today and ordered a custom XC Series HP DP. Check it out:

I provided all the details about my car & motor and they build it accordingly. He said it'll probably end up being in the 760-780 REAL cfm range.
