: Drilling SS holes for fenders, using asm. manual, measure from what?
bigblockkid Aug 6th, 02, 4:23 PM Drilling SS holes in my new Goodmark fenders for my 72 Chevelle, I purchased the 1972 Chevelle Assembly Manual and on page 418, the picture shows the 6 holes but the two bubbles which have +5 & 20 seem to refer to somewhere but I cannot figure out from what. I just want to put them where they belong, I have seen cars with them not in the right area and it really looks like hell. I bought my car without a front clip so I have nothing to look at. Thanks.

d1_bradley Aug 6th, 02, 7:04 PM On a '69 the reference is to a mounting bolt hole for the radiator surround, for the (front to back) and from a point on the lower fender edge, (up and down). The template that Mark offers, is probably the easiest, no it IS the easiest. The assy manual way would give you a quick double check of the template placement.

riskyvt Aug 6th, 02, 7:50 PM I just installed my "SS" and "502" emblems on my '72. The 20 and the 5 are starting points, measured in inches. That would be 20 inches up from the bottom of the fender, and 5 inches forward of the rear of the fender. I used a tape measure, placed a piece of masking tape on the fender, marked 20" and 5", then marked the fine adjustments based on the GM manual. When all the hole marks were made, I used a spring loaded center punch to start drilling. See pix on my site below.

67johnny Aug 7th, 02, 2:59 AM Just did this! Noneck sent me a good template and the top hole for the first S was exactly 5 1/8 from fender edge and 7 inch down from the body line above the SS logo!

Do templates exist for a 69. I sure could use a copy of the locating template.
markcord Aug 8th, 02, 3:05 PM Howdy boys. Just a heads up. I'll be kicking back on Martha's Vineyard until the 14th. So if you email me for templates don't worry, I'm not ignoring you. I'll get to 'em next week. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
