Make sure you are getting what you think you're getting, if these things hit the streets! (if you're buying over the 'net, at least)

If there was any peformance advantage to adapting a 12-bolt cover to a 10-bolt I could understand these. As it is, these things are entirely a cosmetic change. In fact, they probably harm performance by moving the grease scraping contour on the cover too far away from the ring gear to really do any good.

Using one of these is like putting V-Tech stickers on your Honda Hybred. Spending the $110 toward finding a good 12-bolt (or Ford 9-inch even) would make a whole lot more sense.

In all, I'm surprised it has taken this long for something this simple to come out.

There is a market for the poser.

I wanna hear from the first guy that buys a 12 bolt that turns out to be a 10 bolt, poor fool !!!!!

Yeah! What DG said.

And WHERE can you buy hemi valve covers for a SBC?
Didn't know you could buy them. That 49 Ford on the BJ auction was from Texas and we saw the car in person. It was a killer ride, (not my taste but a well executed car) the owner said he made them himself and no plans existed for making them.
I have a friend that wants to do the same for good use on a seriously low budget rat rod project.

Who would buy one???? Seems that the potential market of ONE would quickly kill this too off the wall product.....

Oh good lord, whats next...

Glad I only have a malibu 350 to keep safe. Not too many people trying to imitate mine.

Hmmm... If I put it on backwards, can I put a 10-bolt cover on a 12-bolt?

THAT would be cool if you were building a sleeper :D

I saw them on a car recently, who makes those?

Olle
Mar 28th, 06, 1:12 PM
I have seen those valve covers too, and there's also dummy Ardun valve covers. Don't know if those are for Chevy SB's or Ford FH's though.

Here's another poser item (http://www.alsblowers.com/streetinduction.html). Still kinda cool for those who want to build a streetable gasser-style car. I was thinking that they would carry the Hemii covers too, but couldn't find them.

Edit: Found the Ardun covers (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hot-Rat-Rod-50s-Flathead-Ardun-Hemi-1932-Ford-GASSER_W0QQitemZ8049485049QQcategoryZ33627QQssPage NameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). They were on eBay, of course... :clonk:

Gennie Shifter Co. made SBC valve covers that were very similar to the cam covers on a ZR-1's LT5. They were only made for a short time and are extremely rare. I sold a mint pair for $750 a couple of years ago.
Sure wish I had kept them, now.

Whats next? An adaptor to install BB valve covers on a SB?

Mar 28th, 06, 4:22 PM
If they made a cover to make a 12 bolt look like a 10 bolt......that might be kind of kewl....

.....and yes this ranks right up there with those fake turbos that makes you car sound like it has a turbo when it doesn't.....

those are out there also. A guy I knew had a bucket T with a small block and it had big block look valve covers and a fake blower on it, looked really nasty, not that a weigh nothing T bucket isn't scary fast to begin with.

This set of hemi covers were on a 350 and it really looked convincing at first.

I have been saving all such messages for him since he left. I'll let him see them as soon as he gets here. He mailed his trunk of extra stuff to his brother, got it yesterday, so they must be close to departure. Can't wait for him to be back on US soil, even if it means I have to deal with his "woman" who we have nick named miss piggy.

I haven't seen any fake kickers out there. I did read one thread recently on the vtwin forums where some noob asked where he could get one. :D They gave him hell, but he rode it out, ended up putting a real one on his bike. He's still a dweeb, though. :clonk: :D

You can also buy a nitrous kit just to have a purge system to make it look like you have an actual nitrous kit on the car. If companies make this worthless stuff people will buy it. What a waste of money.

I can see this being a way for deceptive people to sell a car with a fake 12 bolt to an unsuspecting buyer. Normally all I would do to check the rear is look and count the number of bolts on the cover and would figure it really was 12 bolt. Have to be more careful now.

What's the difference between that and SS emblems on a small block Malibu? It's the same thing from what I can tell. How many folks here that do that? He'll make a fortune.

Actually, I may buy one!!!

I'm going to swap out the 3.31 12 bolt rear I'm running now for the origional 10 bolt 2.73 that came in my elky(both are posi BTW)for better mpg on the power tour in June. I've got a spiffy vintage finned cover on the 12 bolt, it'd be neat to be able to run it on the 10 bolt too!!!:D

Hmmm, let's see. $110 for a 12 bolt cover adapter. Or better yet, $5 for a tube of silicone and glue the wrong cover on! Add some plastic acorn nut heads and it's show-time!:D

HMMM, after thinking about it, for $100, I think I can make one for myself for little or nothing.:beers:
