: Powder coating the engine?

I'm considering having my engine powder coated instead of painted. I figure the powder coating would hold up a whole lot better than paint. However, someone brought up a concern that the powder coating might hold in too much heat and not be the best for all the internals.
Any opinions one way or the other?

I was going to get my block powder coated and still might if I can find another pwder coater. If you just done the bare block with noting in it it would be alright they sdi the only concern was the cam bearings.I took some a arms to be powder coated and went back to pick them up to find out I was the genie (spelling)pig on the powder chrome for that shop the didnt tell me that at first just showed me a peice of metal that looked like chrome and I decided to let them do that.Well when I picked them up you talk about mad, they laid them on the counter like nothing was wrong. They were a light gray with dark gray almost black swirls.I said is this mine Mine were suppose to be chrome. And the guy said ah it didnt turn out too good.Like I was going to settle for it and pay them. Then they said they would do them in black If I paid extra to have them stripped again.Like I should have to pay for there mistake.Well anyway they called yesterday to say tey were done again.I havent picked them up yet because Im affraid of what Im going to see.I dont know why I told you about that.I guess I had to get it off my chest. That did teach me a lesson,Make sure the shop you goto is good at what they do.

When powder coating my parts, I asked the powdercoater about engine parts... He said, in general, powder coating is fine as long as the part isn't anticipated to get above about 400 degrees.

I have seen intakes powder-coated without a problem, and I think most areas ofthe engine (externally) would probably be okay, except possibly right at the exhaust side of the heads...

As for internally, I don't see any reason for coating internal parts, except for oil drainback. Not sure what would happen...

I just had my block powder coated Chevy orange and turned out great ...had valve covers powder coated Chevy orange and cleared .....have had intakes powdered coated clear in past works very well ...... see pic's of engine in my sig.

BTW the heat issue is not an issue my engine builder has alot of his circle track blocks powder coated ...... no problems ...... it's true a good powder coat job needs to be prepped properly

Just be sure not to spill any gas on the powdercoat - especially the clear - as it will stain. I won't do it on another intake.
