Can anyone tell me if most all air chisel manufacturers use the same design chisel's and retainers? In other words, can you use a Snap-on chisel on an Ingersol Rand air gun?
Also, Snap-on has a trick ball detent style retainer to replace the spring type retainer that is more typical. Can this Snap-on retainer be used on other manufactureres air guns?
thanks

1. Yes
2. Yes
The threaded chisel retainer isn't a Snap-on only part. Others have it much cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. I only mentioned the Snap-on ball style chuck as that is the first of that style I've seen/used.
Who else may offer that style chuck?
Any input of good or bad on the Ingersol Rand air hammers? I've only ever really used the Snap-on meadium duty model (PH2045) which sells for over $250 plus the ball chuck and chisels are extra...looking at nearly $500 for a complete setup.
I've seen the IR air hammers (IR121K) for $65-80 which are a kit with 5 different chisel designs...less the ball style chuck.
thanks for any thoughts/suggestions.

I have a few chisels that have a wider flange on the end that don't quite fit in the air chisel.I can force them in but its not easy and i have to unscrew the end to get it out.but usually they will interchange.I am using the quick change type not the kind with the spring,i'm assuming thats what you are talking about.
