: Yikes!! Really bad gas leak, need help!!
J.Mcdonald Mar 25th, 06, 8:32 PM Just installed the 770 Street Avenger on my 69ss 396, used the Holley chrome dual gas line and snugged everything up tight. Went to start her today and there is gas leaking badly where the line fits into carb.Tried to tighten it up some more-no luck Holley does not recommend teflon tape, what can i do? I have heard of teflon washers from Holley, or is there some kind of sealant for the threads, i would really appreciate some help as i want start this car and drive!! Thanks.

J.Mcdonald Mar 25th, 06, 8:40 PM No cross threading, tightened with fingers first, then shugged er good and tight , i was thinking of trying the fittings and hose kit that comes with the avenger as i hear some of the dual chrome lines are not that good.
phel69 Mar 25th, 06, 9:51 PM I've had problems with those leaking where the tubing enters the threaded fittings before. I had to screw around with them to make them not leak. I changed over to a Holley regulator with the flexible lines and no more leak issues. Much better product but about 8 times as much money.
BillK Mar 25th, 06, 10:25 PM J,
The threads do not seal the fitting. The flare part does. If it is leaking, there is a good chance that the fitting in the carb, or the end of the tube is damaged. Take it apart and find out which one it is.
CheZeppelinCorps Mar 26th, 06, 12:50 PM I had the same problem. I just put some teflon tape on the threads and the leak stopped. If your picky those fuel lines are only 12 bucks.
J.Mcdonald Mar 26th, 06, 4:10 PM Thanks for the responses, i removed the dual chrome line and installed the hose and fitting kit that came with the avenger, i tightened the fittings to carb. and started it up - still had a minor leak at the rear bowl, i put a wrench on the large fitting and a 5/8 flare nut wrench on the fitting itself and kept tweaking it slowly, man i can't believe how tight you can get those fittings. I've got to the point where i don't want to go any further, there is just a slight wetness around the remaining visible threads, i am hoping it will dry up, what a nasty #@!%&* If i have to i am going to try a wee bit of teflon tape and retighten, i hate leaks - especially gas!!
