: Engine Matching???

I have a question concerning a 396 big block for a 1969 SS & whether or not it is original to the car. The casting #3969854, Engine Suffix T0710JA, above the Oil filter it has 19A352575.

My VIN is 136379A342031

Trim tag is as follows:

69 13637 ATL248516
756 69 B
048

If I understand this right the “352575” above the Oil filter should match to the VIN # & mine is “342031” so this is in fact the wrong engine. It comes out to be a 1969 Chevelle motor just not the original motor, is this correct???

Also in a previous thread I found out that the “248516” in my trim tag is just a body sequence #. This wouldn’t have anything to do with what driveline was put in the car correct??

That is the wrong engine for the car. The last digits after the "A" should match the last digits of the vin. The engine is dated July 10 and the car appears to be dated for the 2nd week in April (048 on the tag, should be 04B signifying 2nd week in month 4 (April)).

Is your car a 4 speed or automatic? Without looking it up, I'm fairly certain JA is the 4 speed code. The engine is still a Chevelle engine.

Hope this helps.
