Hey there guys. i just have a quick question. I have a car that at one time had a vinyl top on but is long gone and was painted. My question is when i started sanding on the area where the body seam is around the rear quarters and the roof there is body filler not only in the seam but also back into the rear window chanell all the way down to the deck filler and around to the other side. is this normal? or has someone gone in and put all of this filler in. I stripped a section of it all the way to bare metal and there are no repairs and no damage. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like someone put it in I just removed my vynal top which is original and under it the body seams arent finished like regular hard top coupe just a rough finish so In theory it would require filler to make it look like a original hard top.

Same with my 67, it required filler to get it straight, looks better than new now.

so going the other way and putting a top on how in depth should i go with the body work..i was thinking it would have to be near perfect. i was going to paint the roof first and then get the top put on and paint the rest of the car. should i paint the roof with anything special?

I've seen cars that were just primered on the top and rust started forming 6 months after the tops were put on. matter of fact, I'm fixing to redo a 66 galaxie for a friend. the shop that put his top on bondoed some rust spots then primed. Its been 4 months and rust bubbles have formed. graemlins/sad.gif
