Can someone help me.. PLEASE. I have a 70 ragtop Chevelle and I was inspecting the engine compartment this weekend, and I noticed that there were (4) spots in the front by the lower cowl that look like they require body bushings. They would be closest to the frame, right about where the parking brake cable comes out. It looks like there are (2) on each side. My car seems to only have (1) on each side installed. Is that normal or should there be another right next to the ones already there?

Thanks for the help!

If I remember correctly some big block cars had those extra ones. I have never been able to find which ones though. If you look in some of the catalogs they list a "supplement" set for "ss" or big block cars. Hope this helps.

there aare 2 types of "towers" thats the sheet metal part welded to the firewall and mounts the body to the frame. one type is not as wide as the other and only has pervisions for one body bushing on each side. the other type is wider and has pervisions for 2 body bushings on each side. if your car has the wider type you should take advantage of that by having 2 on each side weather they were there or not, in my opinion. from my experience, i have seen these type 2 towers only on convertibles. i have a real BB 70 ss and it has type 1 towers. my SB convertible has type 2 towers.

When i ordered my body bushings from ground up they told me the ones you are talking about are the supplemental bushings (like 30 dollars) and you can add them if you want and they will give the car a little better ride.

I have 2 bushings on each side......but.....the kit I received for the converts only made provisions for 1 on each side to receive the bolts. The one to the outside of the body was solid without a bolt hole.....??????? what to do???? I think that I'm going to go ahead and install the bolt. This is the outer ones that I had to tack weld the square nut to the body in order to get the bolt out.

Anyone else do this?

my 70 conv had 2 on each side and only one recieved a bolt the other one just laid in there i believe that the convertibles required the extra bushing

Monte Carlos used the twin tower and two bushings just like the convertibles. The inside bushing on the these do not use a bolt, just the outside. For convertibles the bushing in the front door area uses a bolt, while hardtops just have a bushing and no bolt.

I appreciate the feedback, but I am still a little confused. If there isn't one there, do I have to install one? It looks like everyone is saying that the convertibles have an extra bushing with no bolt? How does it stay in w/ no bolt? And how would I get one in there if the others are tight?

Thanks!

put them in! if your car has the place for them put them in. it cant hurt, only help. you will have to loosen the bushing right next to it and jack the body up about a 1/4 inch at the most.
it is just a rubber block like a hocky puck with a reduced edge on one side. either that or it is just like the other bushings and you put a bolt in it, i dont know which with out looking at mine. i would prefer the bolt if it fits.
