I have a replacement rear bumper for my 72, but can;t seem to solve the question what has to come off first in order to get wrench room. Bolts in between the rear light don't off er any room. Do the plastic taillight housings have to come out, and if so, how.
Any help would be appreciated. Our club is having its Spring Mall show next week-end and I would really like to display mine.

Remove the mount bolts from the inside of the trunk. Don't forget the lower bolts on the bottom of the bumper and disc. the wire harness.

Tony,
First, find a friend or neighbor to help. Remove the rear valance panel, below the bumper. The bolts are in the rear bottom of the quarter panels, under the valance panel. Remove the liscense bracket. The valance panel can now be set aside. Store it so it can't be damaged. Remove the bottom bumper bracket bolts. They are under the car. Disconnect the harness under the left rain gutter below the left quarter. This is inside the trunk. Push the harness grommet down through the hole located to the left of the trunk striker. This is the harness that connects to the rear lights and fuel gauge. Disconnect the wire that runs to the tank sending unit. Lastly remove the 4 bolts inside the trunk that hold the bumper to the rear panel.
Once the bumper is off, you can transfer all the parts to the replacement bumper. Be careful reinstalling it to avoid chipping the paint.
