: sponser help?
1972 Mar 23rd, 06, 1:36 AM Hey all, im looking to find some help on sponsership. It wouldnt need to be a huge amount, i could provide a sticker on the side of the car promoting your buisness. It would also been seen driving down the road, kinda like a rolling billboard.:D I travel all over the midwest bracket racing, usually attending 25+ events a year. The car is a proven winner and has won many races over the years. Well enough of the rambling on, if anyone could help out id appreciate it.
Thanks, Steve
engineguy Mar 23rd, 06, 10:15 AM Steve,
In order to get sponsorship help with your race car, you will need to provide a potential sponsor with a very detailed and professional-looking proposal. I would recommend that you get a loose leaf binder and fill it with information. Begin with yourself, your background and experience relative to running a race car "business". Then facts about your car, including good clear color pictures. List all races you have won, especially when and where. Then finally let the sponsor know how much financial help you are seeking from them. THEN be sure to tell them how the sponsorship will help their business - in other words they will want to know how having their name on you car is going to bring in enough additional sales to justify their expenditure. For example, a car dealer may want to display your car at their facility for a weekend or two during the year.
Once you have all of this information put together in a presentable fashion, then you will need to hit the streets and promote yourself to them personally. Put your proposal in outline form, memorize it and practice a few times before meeting with the targeted sponsors. Be sure that you are clean, neat and present a professional image. There are many guys out there seeking sponsorship help for their race cars and you will need to make yourself stand out. Hope all this helps, good luck.
bisjoe Mar 23rd, 06, 10:21 AM One suggestion, I help sponsor a local dragster and also a demo-derby car.
As the owner of a sign shop my sponsorship involves making all of the logos for the other sponsors, and in return I get to have mine on the cars. If you can find a sign shop in your area willing to do this then you can keep all of the money from the other sponsors to pay for work on the cars, entry fees etc. and not have to pay for the lettering that they will want.

Very good advice. A friend of mine that I race with regularly did most everything mentioned above. He cold called a number of places. With a modest effort he was able to land a $2,500 sponsorship with very little required on his part other than placing a sponsor provided decal on his car and enclosed trailer. I was actually surprised how easy it was for him to get a sponsor.

Kjett,
How big was that sponsor decal? What I was thinking is could you pitch the idea to multiple vendors and get additional sponsors on the same car? Just a thought.......
Thanks!
Bob West Mar 23rd, 06, 9:46 PM Last year I refinanced my house and the mortgage company that did it bought me a set of Hoosier Radial slicks for running his decal in the back window all year long. Kinda takes away from the street car image with the back window full of decal though. Hey Steve, don't you have the brown/gold 72 that runs at MoKan occasionally? Nice looking car if so, almost a twinkie to mine except for the colors :D
jfkheat Mar 23rd, 06, 11:19 PM Does no one else have a problem with this? He may be the nicest person you could ever meet. BUT, he joins the site today and his first post is to ask people he doesn't know for money. I'm sure we all could use some extra money to help with our cars but I don't think this is the way to get it. Just my opinion.

Bob West Mar 23rd, 06, 11:33 PM "will race for sponsorship" :D I don't know the guy personally, I've seen the car once or twice at the 1/4 mile track that I venture to in early spring and late fall and thru the summer if it doesnt interfere with points at my home track. I have a few more posts than he does, can I ask for money? LOL, just kidding ;)
Motor Martyr Mar 23rd, 06, 11:45 PM you might consider running Super Street at divisionals, The guys who run divisionals and national events get the best sponsorships.
Rampy, Fletcher, ect.
1972 Mar 24th, 06, 12:06 AM Sorry if that offended you, i dont mean it to be that way. Just thought id ask and see what happened, or get some advice.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, Tony. IIRC the sticker on his trailer is ~2' square. The sticker he runs on the rear window is prolly 6". Not unsightly on either account and well worth the $2,500 of sponsor $$$ he received, IMO. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have more than one sponsor for the same vehicle. As a courtesy you might want to let each of the perspective sponsors know about any existing sponsorships to avoid any conflict of interest between sponsors, etc...
engineguy Mar 24th, 06, 3:13 PM Good point about the conflict of interest. . . . . .
It would be counter-productive to try to acquire a sponsor who is a competitor, or in the same business as a current sponsor. If you have an auto parts store as a sponsor, don't try to get another auto parts store to sponsor the same car, same for auto dealerships, contractors, dry cleaners, strip clubs, etc., etc.

Kjett,
Thanks for the good info, I appreciate it. It would be nice to get a few sponors to help out with my car at $2500.00 each. That's a way off for me, but it's good to keep in mind. I always wonder how some of these people do it.........I see average guys like me with high dollar cars and rigs, so there has to be something I'm missing somewhere.........
Thanks!
DOUG G Mar 25th, 06, 7:16 AM Bail Bondsmen seem to be big in advertising (shirts/keychains/ect.) Might be a good starting point ?
