Well I took my 327 into the shop last week and today I found out that all of my crank berrings are shot and at least 2 of the rods are toast. The engine builder said that it could be rebuilt but it would take alot of block machining, one main berring actually damaged the block surface. He also told me that with the block machining that they would have to do I might need to get a custom timing chain because the location of the crank would be different. I saw the block apart and it looked pretty bad. The builder told me he could build me a new motor using a 350 block. Since this is not a numbers matching car I really don't care. If I were to use a similar setup on the 350 as on my 327 would I get anymore performance out of the 350? The cost to rebuild the 327 is close to getting the 350.
My 327 is bored 30 over, had the big valve double hump heads, and a 0.490 lift cam. If I slap the heads on the 350 will I be happy?
Just need some advice.

Just need some advice. If you have access to a 350 block why not build a 383?

I figure that for what you could rebuild the 327 for, that you can build a 383 for almost the same price. Look into the cheap, cast rotating assemblies that are out there and you will see what I mean..
AND take your old block home and keep it b/c you never know when you might be able to sell it to somebody that will spend the money to fix it just for their year car..

Well I think I have been talked into going with the 383. Everything I read in this forum makes me think I won't be dissapointed with the results. Now it's just a matter of getting it done.
Thanks,

If it is a larger journal 327 - the 350 \ 327 blocks are identicle - go for the 383 or consider a supercharger for the 350...I just ditched my 383 for a 454....

Small journal 327. That's why I think my best bet is to go with the 383.
