Wes - Yes, I chose snow white perl for the stripes, in fact everything that was chrome will be painted the perl. I "think" that it will achieve the look I want, if not, off to the chromers... It's taking me about 7 hours to do a complete wet sand, I dont know if that is a good or bad time but I know it sure works out my upper body! I outlined the stripes tonight, so tomarrow is the painting of the stripes and then more clear, I will post more pics then.

Barista - The pics really dont do justice, I'm very glad I decided to go that route even though it is way too pricey.

You can't really tell but the silverwhite perl is absolutely beautiful, I was extremely tempted to clear it and go with it. It dries dull so it doesnt look it's best in the picture but I guarantee you would be seen for blocks!

That is beautiful! I just love colors like that. No one is going to ask "What color is that?" "well it is sort of a greenish grayish" I hate those type colors. Your car is BLUE, no mistaking, it is friggin BLUE. And a beautiful blue at that!

Great job

So, how much $$$ in primer and paint are we talking to do this? Trying to paint mine this summer and looking for options...I have a feeling HOK is out of my league.

Thanks for the info

Make sure your clear is fully cured before you go spraying more bse over it.
I had to redo a hood on a 67 camaro that had a peice of dirt get in the final coat of clear. I waited 2 days and then wetsanded, rebased and cleared. After about 3 hours it started wrinkling, cracking and doind all kinds of weird sh%^. I ended up having to sand it all the way down to the primer and redo the whole hood. All this in optimum painting conditions. Might want to check to the paint rep before you go further.

P.S. The car looks awesome. I'd of never thought of that blue on a 70, but it looks trick as hell. GOOD JOB..

Well about cost... It's not cheap.. I cost near 250 bucks too do 5 parts of a bike for me.. of course I had paint left over... Lee out of curiousity, how many quarts/gals of each base, kandy, and clear did you end up using? I am thinking three quarts of base, a gallon of kandy and 2-3 quarts of clear.. but I am just guessing, some hard and fast numbers would be nice too know, so I know how much too order in the next few months http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif Randy based on that we can figure price http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

normie - it is pretty dard straight, as it turns out I did a better job with the prep then the actual paint..I did one small drip on the trunk lid, its hard to see but there, so far I've seen no body flaws at all, I'm sure they will show up once I do the buffing though.

RandyB - HOK tech told me 12 hours before the stripes, I waited 16 so I should be OK.

Normie - I dont have the exact figures yet but more like 3 qts sealer, 4 qts base, 6 qts kandy and 3 qts clear (3 more for final clear for 6 total) and 1 qt perl for the stripes. Of course the proper mix of reducer and catalyst too. I'm about $1200 but I will be taking some back so it will reduce the cost some.
