I am planning to change the original dash strip in my 66. Are there any special tools designed to remove the windshield wiper and headlight switches, or is there some sort of trick in doing it? Any info greatly appreciated.

A Chassis Service Manual would be very helpfull. If you have a 66 I would suggest you buy one along with a Assembly instruction Manual and a Fisher body manual. There is a special way to get the key cylinder out so you can remove the ignition bezel, a little pin to push in so you can get the shaft for the light switch out and remove the nut to get the switch out, similar situation with the wiper switch & the lighter. And you may have to disconnect all the wiring to the switchs and lighter. Then you got to be able to get at the screws holding the dash strip on. Can be done without removal of dash; but more difficult. All this goes much easier if you have the manuals or a friend who has done it before. Good luck

I've only pulled 67 dash strips but the same may apply to the 66 for wiper and headlamp switches. The wiper switch should have a small set-screw holding the knob on - the headlamp switch has a button on the top of the switch assembly (behind the dash) that you depress to remove the knob and shaft assembly. I think GM had special 'sockets' that removed the bezels themselves but I've found a couple of shop rags and channel-clock type pliers us usually enough to break them loose without marring them - they shouldn't be that tight.

As long as you're working on that part of the dash, I have a favor to ask. Could you measure the distance between centerlines of the two switches? In 67 these two are suppose to be 1/2" further apart than the 66. I have a 67 to measure but no 66 to compare it to. Appreciate it.

I get 2 13/16" on my 66 between the wiper and light. I used a electrical wire retainer, the plastic kind with the 2 nails which fit into the 2 little holes on the nut for the light and wiper switch. The retainer for the lighter switch screws on from back of the dash. For the ignition, put key in and turn to accessories, push little pin in the hole, turn key another notch counterclockwise, take out key cylinder, then remove ignition bezel, then switch comes out the back side.

Dale: would you happen to have a photo of front of a 66 delco power brake booster. thanks.
