Im finished up restoring my 70 chevelle (non SS). Hooked up all the lights but have no blinkers or hazards. Although when I hit the break the blinkers will come on...but no blink, they just stay solid.A little history on the electrical -I dont know if this was a problem prior to me aquiring the car because I didnt test it at any point..and couldnt. The previous owner made a mess under the dash and I tired to clean it up the best I could. I also put in a new ratchet shifter and deleted the generator by using an alternator.
I cant say at what point in my wiring I might have crossed something but was hoping someone could give me some idea where to start and what to look for. I have been at it all weekend and its killing me. Its the only thing keeping me off the road
No blinkers unless you hit the brakes are you looking at the lights in the rear or the indicators on the dash, if the dash lights are not coming on but the back lights are I am pretty sure that is the same bulb (element) as the directional, anyway if it is the taillights you are looking at check the flasher if it is missing or open,,, no lights no blink, if the dash indicators are lighting up sound like the direction switch is shorted, I would get a electrical diagram and start at that conector.

Hitting the breaks will cause the ALL the exterior lights to come on along with the indicators on the dash. Hazard lights do absolutly nothing..im starting to think it has something to do with the back up switch.

When the brake light switch is depressed it sends power through the directional switch which, according to my wiring diagram (67) all lights get power through that switch one way or another, I personally think you have a bad turn signal switch but the only way to be sure is to test the harness and switch... Do you have a wiring diagram ?????? you can referance

Turn signal switch huh... Just a guess but I would think I need to pull the wheel to get to that?. I have the haynes rapair manual...but I think a 3 year old could draw a more useful wiring schematic...so in reallity..no, I dont
its really simple you do not have to pull the switch just check all powers at the conector under the dash, I am almost positive there is only one power in that branches out into the switch so locate that power put on end on an ohm meter to it the check each terminal for continuty while using the switch but you need to reference the wiring diagram otherwise your just spinning your wheels and not going anywhere. if you can get a copy of your wiring diagram on this site maybe I can help you figure it out I only have a 67 manual..

so im starting to wonder if the previous owner didnt hack out the directional and hazard relays. I noticed he cut the ebrake indicator wire and the cig lighter wire. I dont know exactly what they look like but from what i understand they look like cylinders and should be mounted under the dash. I have found no such thing in my searching. I dropped the column and have the dash pad out so I can really get in there.....nothing!
searched the net to find a pic of one but couldnt
The onlything I personally took out was the tape deck that was in there. There were some inline fuses for it but nothing other than that

i know all about bad grounds... they love me
I did notice the upper left hand corner of the fuse box there is a female conector that will accept a two prong inster. looks just like a relay should go there. although im being told no relays were put in the fuse block on a 70. I popped in a relay and i now have hazards. the directionals should also go through this relay? but I have none.]
UPDATE - I figured it out. Hazard relay in fuse box the other relay was cut out and i found the wires....the world is back to normal...thanks for the help
