I am looking for a 1970 El Camino jack for my restoration project. Currently I have NO JACK which makes me a bit nervous on the road. I have found a 1971 El Camino jack that I believe will fit the rear bumper, but I have my doubts that it will fit the front. Does anyone know if a 1971 jack will fit the bumpers of a 1970 El Camino???

TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

outbackrob, if you have a factory-type bumper jack that looks correct for your restoration, use it only for its looks. Bumper jacks are inherently unstable and put a lot of stress on your nice, shiny, carefully aligned bumpers. I bought a nifty little hydraulic/scissors-type jack at Harbor Freight for about forty bucks. It will lift most anything and stores easily in the compartment behind the driver's seat.

Just a thought.

....and a good one at that, Louie. A scissor jack is a better way to go. I just got caught up in the whole "restoration" thing I guess! :)

THANKS!

We actually found a scissor/screw type of jack. The screw end has a nut on the end, and you can raise and lower it with an air wrench, or use a socket with a handle to raise and lower it. The top of the jack has a protruding rod that goes into a hole in the frame.

Rob, Try the junkyards for a scissors type jack from a mid /80 G body, Regal, Cutlass Grand Prix. The head has a raised round area like Richard and Judy described that fits perfectly into the frame holes on my '70 Elky. It folds flat and fastens to the panel behind the rear seat under the space save spare that I got from the same car. Try Macs Pull a Part up Hwy 35 on the left just north of Beltway 8. I used to go there all the time and may be able to frequent again soon! No details yet.

The late model Elkys have a pretty niffty frame jack too. It's a rachet jack but is also a scissors jack.

Elcaminos are special!
I'd rather walk around with a Chevrolet hubcap in my hand than drive a Ford

Hey wow! Lots of great ideas and OPTIONS! I will be checking them ALL out! I like the idea of a frame jack as I BELIEVE I will have a 1970 Monte front bumper and a 1968 El Camino Bumper when all is said and done.

WHAT? SSUPER DAVE on the move? Send details when you can!

I couldn't repair my brakes, so I made my horn louder. :D Honk if you love peace and quiet.
Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.
