[I posted this in Electrical, but it wasn't gettting any views. Please forgive me for the double post]

My windsheild wipers arn't working right ever since my brother rewired the car.

I'd like to see if its just an issue of bad wiring between the switch and the motor, here is an image that will help my question:

this is a 1972 mailbu.

hopefully you can see it, basicly i need to know what the prongs on each peice of hardware do, and wich prongs need to connect to what.

FYI my car is SHOCKING me when i touch any metal and then touch the wiper switch.

Please help, i'm desperate!!!
:-)

thanks TC

my washers have never worked since i had the car, right now, my wipers come one, but sometimes occilate between off and "unhidden" with out actually wiping the windows.

when i turn them back off, the wipers keep occilateing between hidden and non hidden.

sometimes they work sometimes they don't, its really sketchy, but only two wires are plugged into the back of my switch. three wires come off the motor.

if i knew what each of the prongs on the switch and on the motor did, i'd be in much better shape.

The 1972 Fisher Body Manual has about 50 or more pages dedicated to the windshield wiper system. If you don't get help by this pm I will post some relevant diagrams for you this evening. I just went through the process of attempting to diagnose a wiper failure on my '72 and could never figure it out, then suddenly the wipers started working again so I am baffled.

Robert, that would be very helpful of you to post that.

with the way my system is missing most of its electrical hook up, i seriously doubt that the problem will fix itself. YOU NEVER KNOW though hehe.

I havn't been able to resolve this issue yet. Yesterday the wipers started wigging out on me.

The switch has been unplugged from the motor for weeks now, but i was sitting in line for gas at costco and the wipers started doing their little shimmy between hidden and "ready" (but not actually wiping the windsheild)

I had to pull out the fuse to stop them.

What in gods name is wrong with my wipers?

If i could get a description of what each electrical connection on the wiper motor and switch are for that would help me completely.

Please if anyone knows, please tell me. :-(

Check where the bolts go to the firewall. This has happened to me before and I wasn't getting a good ground. The bolts looked perfectly good too. Tighten them with the wipers on to see if it corrects the problem. Bad grounds can drive you crazy!

you mean the bolt holding the assembly to the firewall, or at the end of one of the wires?

Aren't the bolts insulated from contacting both the wiper motor and the firewall? The switch is the ground, there is a metal strap which is bolted to the dash, on 70 it is like this anyway.

You are correct on the grounding tab on one of the bolts holding all to the firewall. I forgot about that. Anyway I believe that's your culprit.

well then my switch ins't grounding because it's shcoking me.

Does the switch ground through one of its bolts or through a wire that grounds elswehere?

Will this help?

dean that helps quite a bit, though my switch has four connections on it. this one appears to have 3.

I think there is enough here to do some experimenting though. Thank you.
