The peanut ports actually flow o.k. around 250 . it kinda depends on your cam and compession.

I would definatly say the peanut ports would make more torque, and horsepower in your rpm range.I think most peanut ports have large open chambers , so match up the piston chioce wisely.

My dad runs that same setup in his jet boat and it has lots off idle power and pulls strong to about 5500.

Imho, do no more than a good three angle valve job AND a decent bowl blend and machining ledge/dingle-berry casting flash clean up and install .020" shim headgaskets and you will have torque monster!

I would even by-pass that cam AND get the Crane Powermax H-266-2 at 266/274 if it was mine b/c a BB can stand more cam than a SB due to the stroke unless you have a 400 SB...

I had the -236 peanut port ovals on my old 454. Stock replacement cam, flat tops, Eddy Performer 2-0 and Holley 750. Definately held its own in the power department. Plenty of tourqe, but fell off at 5300. But definatley was a tire melter below that.
