Close the hood half way and slip washers or coins in between the coils, then open it all the way up and the springs will pop right off.

I never would have thought of that coin trick. I think there is also a tool that looks sort of like a "J" hook that can be used to unhook them from the hinge. I've only seen it in a picture... don't know where you'd get one. An auto body supplier maybe?

i've use nails. it took one between every coil.

I've seen the hook type too but i can't find any pages with them.Here is a simple design.
