: So I bought a Dyson "animal" vacuum.
YenkoChevelle69 Mar 15th, 06, 8:32 PM This thing is incredible! Who knew there was that much dust hidden down deep within the nap of the carpet. It gets right up against the base boards, and you can see what all it sucks up. Emptying is a snap. I actually enjoy using this vacuum. I have vacuumed 5 times today and have flushed about 1.5 gallons of dust down my comode. My house has a different feal to it already. If you can afford one... I highly recommend it.
storm Mar 15th, 06, 8:35 PM can you do my place first to make me a beleiver?
Which model did you buy? looks like the price jumps around some. They were as low as $425 last Nov according to www.nextag.com
CANTED Mar 15th, 06, 8:53 PM We have the same one at our house. If you have a pet it is a good one.
circletrack Mar 15th, 06, 9:46 PM Tell me more, I just heard about these and it seems like the vacuum to get. I had an Oreck ~ piece of junk and went back to the good old fashioned Eureka, but it's time for something new. Are they worth the money?!
RussD Mar 15th, 06, 9:56 PM My girlfriend has one and will never use another vacuum again either. Hers was ~$600 and she absolutely swears by it.
Johnny O Mar 15th, 06, 10:18 PM We bought ours about 3 years ago, I think it was when they first became popular here. At first I found it hard to spend that much on a vacuum, even though I was forcing myself to think about my garage, and all the extra and un-needed parts I have laying around! But I swear, this thing is the BOMB!!! It really does out perform everything else. It has mega suction, unbelievable, and it doesnt diminish with time like a standard vacuum does. It's super easy to clean, and all the passages and tubes and all that come apart really easily to clean them. I would highly recommend it to anyone....Rachael, go for it!! We bought the Animal as well, I think it was 500.00.....but there are some lower priced units if you dont want all the attachments.
J70Chev Mar 15th, 06, 10:41 PM and have flushed about 1.5 gallons of dust down my comode.
I'm curious, why the heck would you flush this down the toilet? and not take it out to the trash.
Dean Mar 16th, 06, 12:53 AM I'm curious, why the heck would you flush this down the toilet? and not take it out to the trash.
I was just wondering the same thing.
Being a plumber for many years I can tell you that you should not put anything down the toilet excep toilet tissue, no matter what you read or see form people selling so called "flushable products" They only work with a PERFECT sewer which is almost non existant.
Even Klenex will stop up a sewer because it does not turn into pulp but hangs together like cloth.
Rob G Mar 16th, 06, 2:01 AM maybe he means flush as in how the emptying canister works. I love my dyson too and I like to "flush" my tank before each room to analyze how much dust was in it. Crazy I know!!!!
YenkoChevelle69 Mar 16th, 06, 11:20 AM Forget it. I won't post anymore. You guys are the pickiest group of people I have ever been around.
Byfield Mar 16th, 06, 11:27 AM Forget it. I won't post anymore.
Before you do that, how is it on hardwood floors? DO you think it's better on those surfaces as well as the carpets? I've got a pet, so there's lots of debris, but most of the house is wood
lance-w Mar 16th, 06, 11:32 AM Forget it. I won't post anymore. You guys are the pickiest group of people I have ever been around.
Naw, it's just winter for most of them and they're grouchy :D
1BLACKHARLEY Mar 16th, 06, 11:32 AM you know? it really chapped my hide, to put out the $ for the dyson, but i got to tell you, these things are amazing. i used to empty the bag on our old ones every few weeks, this thing is full every time i use it. they say there are a couple out there that are better, but i haven't seen anything, that works as consistently as these do. easy empty, and it truly amazes me the stuff this thing pulls out of carpet and furniture. owning everything from a kirby to a red devil over the years, and it's the best vaccum i've owned. my wife and kid have allergies, and if used regularly, they rarely have problems, and we have two in door cats....
rbarnes Mar 16th, 06, 11:42 AM I have had one for about a two years. The wife loves it. It's not very heavy and she can lift it up the stairs with no problem. We have two cats and two young girls and that thing works great on the carpet, furniture and my hardwood floors. Nice thing it's easy to take apart and clean. Was a little pricey but I feel it was worth it.

Truely a car guy... lol I do the same thing, but I have to take my paper filter out and I blow it clean with the air compressor out in the backyard... just see which way the wind is going and hope it goes away from my house :). Then do each room to see how much crap comes up lol.
scotroberts1969 Mar 16th, 06, 12:29 PM Ha! I'm going to print this out and show my wife. We don't have a Dyson, but have a Bissel bagless that I empty out before I vacuum. She asked me why and I said that it's because I like seeing how much gets sucked up.
Chief Mar 16th, 06, 12:33 PM I bought mine after I figured out that Yellow Labs shed more than any other dog in the world. I could have saved $850 overall...$500 for the vacuum and $350 for the dog (not counting food)LOL..but I would not trade her for the world. The vacuum is really an amazing thing how it brings up all the dust in the carpet and the amount of hair it picks up from the dog makes me think she will be bald somday...
Lomonte Mar 16th, 06, 8:12 PM We have 2 labs-and 2 boys. Our dyson ROCKS!
Umass Mar 16th, 06, 10:02 PM now when you buy your wife a new vacum for her birthday and she smacks you in the head you can say "Honey but its cost 600$"
Donnie1 Mar 17th, 06, 12:52 AM wheres the link to this Dyson i want to check it out.
ive got a Tri-Star Pig and its a nice unit.
Johnny O Mar 17th, 06, 7:12 AM Lots of places sell them now...we got ours at Sears, but I think even home depot and lowes sell them now. But as far as I know, no one can discount them, at least not yet. And for the hard floor, yes it works great. And you dont have to change any little switches or anything going from carpet to hard floors. We have three labs (yes, the yellows shed a lot!), and it keeps the house really clean.

So is ours, and it works just fine. Although I am not sure it is worth the expense for mostly hardwood. We use a microfiber mop that works well on hardwood. One thing I've learned is that good vacuums ain't cheap.
hxturbo Mar 17th, 06, 4:34 PM I can't believe how timely this post is....almost. I went out last weekend (on wifes orders) and picked an "animal" up at Sears. I ended up not caring how much it cost because it picks up more than my last two vacuums combined. Especially my yellow labs hair. My wife was wondering about the cost until she saw the cannister contents and was "very" happy. Then I read this post and see how happy everyone else is and it makes me glad we made the right choice. (choice meaning my wife said do it and I did)
1BLACKHARLEY Mar 17th, 06, 4:42 PM you guys do realize, that if guys from other car sites look in here, they're going to think we're a bunch of moe's.....here we are, all jacked up over our new vaccums......gotta love it...

Of course , as everyone knows, we only bought them because they do the best job keeping our cars clean! And they can be adapted to make a great leaf blower or turbocharger !
Blown 70 Mar 17th, 06, 5:12 PM Just rewire it to blow, instead of suck.
then figure out a way to mount it under the hood.
And they will be back on track :hurray:
Dyson supercharger !!!:clonk:
kevin d Mar 17th, 06, 5:19 PM Ok folks,
how is the warranty? Has anyone had to use it?

Then maybe I shouldn't say anything about the awesome new ironing board I bought today.
Rich-L79 Mar 17th, 06, 10:45 PM You want to know the real trick to getting Dyson performance for a whole lot less money? Look for a used Fantom vacuum. Fantom Thunder is a good choice. Fantom was bought out some years back and guess who bought the rights to their technology? You guessed it, Dyson. Fantoms are somewhat more well made and even new sold for around half what Dyson charges so used prices are even less. So, if you can find a good used one, buy it.
JWA Mar 17th, 06, 11:37 PM Fantom is still in Business Rich, how old of a Vacuum does it need to be, before you get the Dyson equivalent?
http://www.fantom.com/fantom/GoodBetterBest.aspx?cat=FullSizeUprights(Fantom)
68chevyed Mar 18th, 06, 4:51 PM Ok you guys sounded so convincing i went out and bought the dc14 animal. As we have a long haired shepard that would give your yellow labs a run in the hair loss dept.:) Not to mention all the dog dander. I have to agree i am totally impressed at the crap that has come out of the carpet  That thing pulled up dog hair that was down deep in the carpet that our dirt devil never touched by the looks of it. :( My wife said it is my fathers day gift i can even put the team chevelle sticker on it:D she also is impressed so we give it a big  What other site can you learn about the best cars and vacumes  So if you can afford one i would do it!!!
Rich-L79 Mar 19th, 06, 12:14 AM Fantom is still in Business Rich, how old of a Vacuum does it need to be, before you get the Dyson equivalent?
http://www.fantom.com/fantom/GoodBetterBest.aspx?cat=FullSizeUprights(Fantom)
The Fantom name is still around, but they are not the same. The current versions are cheaply made and lack the impressive technology of the original Fantoms. The current ones are made in China, look for an older model made in Canada. The unit would need to be 2-3 years old at least to be the good made-in-Canada version.
The way the buyout went was that one company bought the Fantom name, another (Dyson) bought the technology.
sudolg Mar 19th, 06, 7:51 AM I removed all carpeting from my house and am so happy I did this. You'll never remove all the nasty crap living in the carpet no matter how much you pay for your vacuum. Much better for those with allergys too.
dabuickman Mar 19th, 06, 8:30 AM i have the same vacuum. it does kick @ss. i got a 20% off coupon from BED BATH AND BEYOND in the mail. it was for one item. they at first said that it could not be used on dysons but after verifing they said ok.
also the kid working there told me that bed bath has a no problem return policy even yrs from now if any problems they will exchange it for new.
SS540 Mar 19th, 06, 8:48 AM Saw a Dyson "Animal" advertised in the Heartland America catalog for $249. They are factory reconditioned units and the ad says they may have slight cosmetic blemishes. I wonder how many units get returned and are reconditioned?
Sparke60 Mar 19th, 06, 9:52 AM I have a problem with a sweeper costing around $500 & it's made in Malaysia. Good 3rd world quality. I did see that Bob Dyson has joined the ranks of the multi-billionares.

Hope you got that in writing as a friend just tried to use their coupon and they wouldn't accept it let alone take something back years from now. You all have me interested in this machine, I looked at them over the weekend ~ the price still gets me. I can buy lots of parts for the Chevelle with that $$$! ;)
YenkoChevelle69 Mar 19th, 06, 11:24 AM OK, so I did a little experiment. I vacuumed one room once a day for the past week... The first day was 4 times... anyhow after a total of 10 vacuumings (is that a word?) I can totally tell a difference in the carpet. The hallway is matted down like carpet tends to get and my bedroom was the same way. Well, now it's fluffy, and nice just like new. There is no longer dust floaties that you seen when the sun light shines in the room. I like it more and more every day.
Jimmy P Mar 19th, 06, 12:16 PM Man! I been down this road. Let me tell you where it leads.
First, a guy showed up at our door one day when we just began cleaning our house. He said he would demonstrate his Vacuum/carpet cleaner/ super duper machine for free. HAVE AT IT! We said.
This kid (>21) was here for four hours as my wife was giving him Blue Margaritas that kept him happy.
That thing worked like magic! With two dogs and two kids, our fully carpeted house was knee deep in dirt we never knew was there! 'We gots to have one of these!', The wife said.
In his ending shpeel, he pitched this thing for $1400!!! I got on E-Bay and showed him that I could purchase a brand new one for $600.00
The poor kid, with his presentation blown, he called in his supervisor, that magicaly appeard in less than two minutes. The older kid lowered the price to $800. That's $600 off instantly. We said no thanks, but thanks for knocking on OUR door to help clean our house!
Two weeks later the wife shows up with the same vacuum. Just as in the demonstration, the vacuum cleaner kicked butt for months to come, showing us how much dirt we lived in. YUCK! Good money spent, huh?
So, we installed hardwood flooring through-out the house so we don't have the trapped dirt and alergens we had with carpeting. Now we have an awesome vacuum cleaner that sits in the closet, un-used. Now we have to clean up the floor with a new contraption and cleaner purchased weekly to keep our floors clean.
That darned demonstration has now cost us over $7,500.00 and is climbing steadily.
rocks66ss Mar 19th, 06, 4:26 PM We have been talking for a long time about buying one of these things. I had a problem at first about spending that much money on a vac.
Just an fyi, the 20% coupon at bed bath and beyond says right on it, excludes Dyson! Well after reading all this today, I showed the post to my wife, I got to say you all convinced her to go get one.
we had a 10% coupon at Home Depot and when we bought it, we got a coupon for $85.00 worth of attachments for your car free.
Well.............to make a long story short, we had cleaned the house today befor buying the new Dyson Animal, I got to say that thing ROCKS, I never knew how dirty the carpet was, even after vacuuming befor hand the new vac made the carpets look like new, WOW, I never would have thought!
No wonder they are so much, They really work
Rocky
Posts like this get me thinking we should have a "group discount" team that can look at putting together some deals. :)
68chevyed Mar 19th, 06, 5:21 PM Hey Al that would be a great thing!!! Sure wish i would have checked Home Depot first that is a great deal
MALIBRU Mar 19th, 06, 7:28 PM Here's where I bought: http://www.bestvacuum.com/dyson-vacuum-cleaner.html They offer refurbished units, too.
We also have the Animal (DC07) and it continues to pull out carpet crap. I think it's the cheap carpet's adheasive that's now broken down into a powder.
I like seeing the carpet nap spinning around in the "Flux Capacitor"...
circletrack Mar 19th, 06, 7:54 PM Posts like this get me thinking we should have a "group discount" team that can look at putting together some deals. :)
Great thinking Al! In all honesty before I buy anything online I research it and search for any coupons/rebates ~ it's amazing how many you can find if you look. Still thinking about this vacuum, with two dogs I may not want to know what's in my carpet! ;)
Does anyone know what the difference may be in the refurbished units (other than the obvious)? I've bought refurbished items before and some are just fine but others (like the Oreck) are junk not too long after purchase.
Johnny O Mar 19th, 06, 8:27 PM I wish we could get a commission on selling these things....Do you have any idea how many friends of mine have bought a Dyson after hearing me and my wife pitching them? I was thinking the same thing as many of you, that's a whole lotta money. But I havn't regretted it since the minute I got it home and saw it work.
fatboy95 Mar 19th, 06, 10:06 PM If you can buy through AAFES you can get a pretty decent deal. Not sure what the difference is but the animal is 479.00 and the other one is 349.00.
Can someone tell me the difference between them? My wife and I have been talking about getting one.
68chevyed Mar 20th, 06, 8:03 PM Well you can go to Dyson.com and see the different ones. There are three different animals dc-07,dc-14, dc-15 We bought the 14 it is quiet and powerful. The difference we saw between the 07 and the 14 was the xtending handlewhich comes in handy for doing under the beds with the attachment.
Narti Mar 21st, 06, 2:18 AM Hey Al,
How about designing some "Team Chevelle" aprons for these fellas to wear while they're sucking up all that dirt with their fancy vacuums?? :D Just an idea! ;)
Jill Mar 21st, 06, 12:39 PM They sell these at Bed Bath & Beyond. BB&B always has 20% off coupons. I read the fine print on my coupon and Dyson is not mentioned as an exclusion, Oreck is. This coupon can save someone about $100. Their number, to get on their mailing list for coupons, is 1-800-462-3966. Also, they price match and take competitors coupons.
drdave69 Mar 21st, 06, 3:43 PM I have been researching the Dyson since this post and the DC14 Low Reach seems to fit my needs. I just received a 10% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond but they don't have this model. As soon as the wife thinks she has the money for one we will buy one. It's hard to believe that we will be spending over $400 for a vacuum.
Jill Mar 21st, 06, 4:20 PM My local BB&B does have the Dyson Animal DC14 Low Reach. I stopped and looked at it today. If yours doesn't have it, they should be able to order it for you. Also, make sure that you get the 20% coupon and not just 10%. It will save you an extra $54.00.
Narti, the aprons are a great idea! If you manage to get some put together please let me know. I would love to get one for my husband since he does most of the vacuuming. ;)
Jill
SS_Dave Mar 21st, 06, 4:59 PM :waving:This whole thread sucks.
Astro70SS Mar 21st, 06, 5:01 PM I jumped on the site to do a search on Electric fans...And wind up reading 4 pages on the Dyson vacuum....LOL.
Just spent almost $300 0n a Hoover...Seems to work great.
DWJ70 Mar 21st, 06, 5:27 PM My wife just bought one this weekend. I about S*** when she said it was $400.00 or so... It does work fantastic though, as long as she's pushing it. Pics up my retrievers hair very well... Think she got it at COSTCO due to thier lifetime returns policy

I would check very closely on the Bed Bath and Beyond coupon. It may be a regional thing, but I have Two BB&B coupons in front of me as I type, and both of them say........... and dyson products!!!!
WOW, this is freaky. as I was typing this post, my wife brought the mail in and I now have a third BB&B 20% coupon, and this one says nothing about Dyson, I would check , I have Two that exclude Dyson and one that doesnt
Rocky
drdave69 Mar 22nd, 06, 8:28 AM The BB&B coupon I had was 10% and did not exclude Dyson (it did exclude Oreck). Where can I get the 20% coupon? I don't know if my local store stocks the DC14 Low Reach, I was just going by their website on the models that are stocked.
Narti Mar 22nd, 06, 12:07 PM Narti, the aprons are a great idea! If you manage to get some put together please let me know. I would love to get one for my husband since he does most of the vacuuming.

What has the world come too??!! :D
Motorhead Mar 22nd, 06, 8:14 PM Try vacuming your mattress.
circletrack Mar 22nd, 06, 10:06 PM The coupon I had from BB&B specifically said Dyson was NOT included. Wonder why they're all different?
We decided to spend the money on a big screen 50" tv for now, I can wait on the vacuum for a bit, maybe the prices will come down?
