I have a 68 Chevelle that I would like to
try to paint it myself.Only problem is that I
have no garage. What I do have is one of those
"Quick Sheds"...the ones that look like
airplane hangers and have a heay canvas top.
I hear stories about some places that can
take up to a year to paint older cars. But on
the other hand I would like to end up with
a nice job.(I'm not looking for a show car).
I'm trying to decide which way to go and really
need advice. Thanks alot in advance guys!

hey-nice to hear from someone in CT.Try and see if you can rent a spray booth for a few hours at a bodyshop.Just start calling shops in your area and see what happens.I know people who have had good luck.Cheapest was $75.00. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Another option is to do all the expensive body and prep work yourself and let an experienced painter shoot it for you.

As Steve has pointed out it's the prep work that takes a lot of time & $$$.

If you don't have the tools, knowledge and skills to do bodywork, you're better off leaving it to those that do. You can still save yourself a lot of $$$ by taking all the trim and chrome off your car. Shops charge the same for unskilled tasks as for high skilled tasks.

This is a good time of year to get a bodyshop to work with you. Winter is over and so are all of the winter fender benders that keep shops in business. Some shops will let their employees do these type of jobs in the evenings.

check around, go to Cruise Nights and ask others where they get their work done.

Good luck,

I plan on having my car shot by someone with experience. I want a good job done. I just wouldnt be able to deal with the idea of screwing up with $700+ worth of paint.

Hey Thanks guys...I totally forgot about taking the car apart myself and that part's cake. The car also is rust-free so I don't anticipate any body work.
