I need some data about the light for the Air Conditioning / Heater control on a 72.

I have replaced the black background paper insert with a white background to match my white face guages. The paper insert has black letters representing the locations of the controls. I also have retained the stock original plastic lense but I removed the original letters. Now the clear plastic lense is just that a clear plastic plate with nothin on it. I think that in getting the panel to have black letters on a white field as opposed to white letters on a black field, I might have created a problem for myself with the "back lite" method used on the stock controls.

I have light with my current set up but it does not seem as bright as I want.

Question #1 What number bulb goes in there on a standard Chevelle? I have a lot of bulbs kicking around BUT I cannot recall what bulb number belongs in there.

Question #2 What bulbs are brighter than the stock one? I think having the letters in black on a white field behind the now blank clear (no letters) plastic lense could be causing the illumination to now work as well as stock. Perhaps a brighter bulb?

Right now I don't know what number bulb goes in there so I don't know what stock is. If I have a stock bulb (and can figure out which one it is) and I want to go to something brighter I don't know what to buy.

Any help apreciated.

I think the light for the heater control backlight is your plain ol' 194.

You could upgrade to a white (or any color you want) LED and it would be much brighter.

I have a replacement bulb guide but the heater control backlight isn't listed.

I will look..I know I don't have a 194 anywhere. A lot of 55's and I think 57's and who knows what else. I will look and see what I have handy. I did post this on another section...electrical. Interesting reply. You might want to take a look at the post. Might be that my problem is related moreto the way I modified the panel and the lense than it is to the actual bulb size.
